Bobby Darin (born Walden Robert Cassotto; May 14, 1936 – December 20, 1973) was an American musician and actor. He performed jazz, Pop music, pop, rock and roll, Folk music, folk, Swing music, swing, and country music. He started his career as a songwriter for Connie Francis. He recorded his first million-selling single, "Splish Splash (song), Splish Splash", in 1958. That was followed by "Dream Lover", "Mack the Knife#Popular song, Mack the Knife", and "Beyond the Sea (song), Beyond the Sea", which brought him worldwide fame. "Go Tell It on the Mountain" is an African-American spiritual song, compiled by John Wesley Work Jr., dating back to at least 1865, that has been sung and recorded by many gospel and secular performers. It is considered a Christmas carol as its original lyrics celebrate the Nativity of Jesus: An alternate final line omits the reference to the birth of Christ, instead declaring that "Jesus Christ is Lord". Recording artists In 1963, the musical team Peter, Paul and Mary, along with their musical director Milt Okun, adapted and rewrote "Go Tell It on the Mountain" as "Tell It on the Mountain", their lyrics referring specifically to Exodus and using the phrase "Let my people go", but referring implicitly to the civil rights struggle of the early 1960s. Robert William Scott (January 29, 1937 – November 5, 1990) was an American musician, record producer, and songwriter. Biography Scott was born in Mount Pleasant, New York, United States, and became a pianist, vibraphonist, and singer, and could also play the accordion, cello, clarinet, and double bass. He studied under Edvard Moritz at the La Follette School of Music at the age of eight, and was working professionally at 11. In 1952, he began touring with Louis Prima, and also toured and performed with Gene Krupa, Lester Young, and Tony Scott in the 1950s. In 1956 he hit the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 with the song " Chain Gang", peaking at number 13. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. Beyond use at church, the round has been popular for secular quests for peace, such as the reunification of Germany. History The text of "" is a short prayer for peace from the Agnus Dei of the Latin mass. In the round for three parts, it is sung twice in every line. The melody has been passed orally. It has traditionally been attributed to Mozart but without evidence. English-language hymnals usually mark it "Traditional". Josephus Franciscus Mohr, sometimes spelled Josef (11 December 1792 – 4 December 1848) was an Austrian Roman Catholic priest and writer, who wrote the words to the Christmas carol "Silent Night." Franz Xaver Gruber (25 November 1787 – 7 June 1863) was an Austrian primary school teacher, church organist and composer in the village of Lamprechtshausen, Arnsdorf, who is best known for composing the music to "Stille Nacht" ("Silent Night"). Life Gruber was born on 25 November 1787 in the village of Hochburg-Ach, Upper Austria, the son of linen weavers, Josef and Maria Gruber. His given name was recorded in the baptismal record as "Conrad Xavier," but this was later changed to "Franz Xaver". The Hochburger schoolteacher Andreas Peterlechner gave him music lessons.
