Ray Erskine Parker Jr. (born May 1, 1954) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. As a solo performer, he wrote and performed the theme song to the 1984 film ''Ghostbusters''. Previously, Parker achieved a US top-10 hit in 1982 with " The Other Woman". He also performed with his band, Raydio, and with Barry White. Early life Parker was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Venolia Parker and Ray Parker Sr. He has two siblings: his brother Opelton and his sister Barbara. Parker attended Angel Elementary School where his music teacher, Afred T Kirby, inspired him to be a musician at age six playing the clarinet. Parker attended Cass Technical High School in the 10th grade. Parker is a 1971 graduate of Detroit's Northwestern High School. Raydio is an American funk and R&B vocal group formed in 1977 by Ray Parker Jr., with Vincent Bonham, Jerry Knight, and Arnell Carmichael. Career 1970s and Raydio After securing a record deal, the group scored their first big hit in early 1978 with "Jack and Jill", which was taken from their self-titled debut album. The song peaked at #8 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, and reached #11 in the UK Singles Chart, earning a gold record in the process. ''A Woman Needs Love'' is a 1981 album by American band Raydio, led by guitarist singer/songwriter Ray Parker Jr. Released by Arista Records on April 11, 1981, this is the fourth and final album by the band. History It again includes eight tracks, but this time, all of them were written and produced by Parker himself. The album, released in 1981, gave Raydio their biggest pop hit in the form of the title track, which peaked at number 4 on the pop charts. It also reached number 1 on the R&B charts and number 11 on the Adult Contemporary charts. It was followed by two more singles; "That Old Song" (21 pop, 26 R&B, 7 AC) and "It's Your Night" (73 R&B).
