That Man Jack!
''That Man Jack!'' is a 1925 American silent Western film directed by William James Craft and starring Bob Custer, Mary Beth Milford, and Hayford Hobbs. Plot As described in a film magazine reviews, when Anita Leland’s team runs away from her, a muscular stranger intervenes, stops the horses and assists her to dismount. He gives his name as Jack, and when Sammy Sills proposes that he should become his partner in working a mine, he consents, as the proposition enables him to be near the young woman. Jack engages in a fight with Bill Stearns, a husky loafer, and thrashes him soundly. It transpires that his partner Sammy is also in love with Anita, having known her since childhood, and is engaged to her. Jack makes up his mind to leave and rides away. Sammy is attacked by the Steams gang and slain. Suspicion of Sammy's death falls upon Jack, which is strengthened when his share of the gold is found on him. He escapes. William James Craft
William James Craft (1886 – 30 June 1931) was a Canadian film director and screenwriter. He directed more than 60 films between 1910 and 1931. Monte Collins
Monte Collins (also credited as Monty Collins; December 3, 1898 – June 1, 1951) was an American film actor and screenwriter. He appeared in more than 160 films between 1920 and 1948. He also wrote for 32 films between 1930 and 1951. Career Dapper, pencil-mustached Collins starred in silent short comedies in the late 1920s. These were produced by Educational Pictures and often directed by Jules White. Prior, he had worked as a director in Portland, Oregon. The coming of sound in movies had no ill effect on Collins's career; he was not as big a name as Buster Keaton or Laurel and Hardy, so Collins had no preconceived screen image that could be shattered by talkies. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Though at the time the technology to synchronize sound with the film did not exist, music was seen as an essential part of the viewing experience.
