''That Girl'' is an American TV series sitcom that ran on ABC from September 8, 1966, to March 19, 1971. It starred Marlo Thomas as the title character, Ann Marie, an aspiring (but only sporadically employed) actress who moves from her hometown of Brewster, New York, to try to make it big in New York City. Ann has to take a number of offbeat temp jobs to support herself in between her various auditions and bit parts. It was one of the first sitcoms to focus on an unmarried woman who was not a domestic or living with her parents, a forerunner of '' The Mary Tyler Moore Show''. Ted Bessell played her boyfriend Donald Hollinger, a writer for ''Newsview Magazine''. Lew Parker and Rosemary DeCamp played Lew Marie and Helen Marie, her concerned parents. Bill Persky
Bill Persky (born September 9, 1931) is an American television director, screenwriter, and producer. Biography Persky was born to a Jewish family, the son of an estate auctioneer. His father would travel between various resort towns where the wealthy lived to conduct estate auctions. He has one older sister, Bunny Persky Grossinger, and attended Ramble Elementary School in Hot Springs, Arkansas. During the summers, he worked as a lifeguard in the Borscht Belt in the Catskill Mountains. He attended Syracuse University, where he studied advertising, and after school went to work for an advertising agency in New York City. He then took a job at WNEW where he met Sam Denoff where they wrote jokes for the DJs out of fun which soon morphed into part of their job tasks. The writing team moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s, taking a job to write for ''The Steve Allen Show''. Persky and Denoff wrote some of the most popular episodes of ''The Dick Van Dyke Show''. Saul Turteltaub
Saul Turteltaub (May 5, 1932 – April 9, 2020) was an American comedy writer and producer. He was nominated for Emmy Awards in 1964 and 1965 as part of the writing team for ''That Was the Week that Was'', and in 1968 for ''The Carol Burnett Show''. Most commonly working with collaborator Bernie Orenstein, he wrote and produced ''That Girl'', ''Sanford and Son'' (and its spin-offs '' Grady'' and ''Sanford Arms''), ''What's Happening!!'', ''Baby Talk'', and ''Kate & Allie'', among others. Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, Turteltaub was raised in nearby Englewood. Turteltaub attended Columbia University, and received his bachelor's degree and then, in 1957, his law degree. Scherick (October 16, 1924 – December 2, 2002) was an Emmy-winning American television executive and producer of television miniseries, made-for-television films, and theatrical motion pictures. Life and career Scherick was born in New York City, the son of Jennie (née Friedman) and Jacob J. Scherick. He was raised in Long Beach, NY and graduated Long Beach High School in 1941. In film and video, a freeze frame is when a single frame of content shows repeatedly on the screen—"freezing" the action. A cold open (also called a teaser sequence) is a narrative technique used in television and films. It is the practice of jumping directly into a story at the beginning of the show before the title sequence or opening credits are shown. In American television, this is often done on the theory that involving the audience in the plot as soon as possible will reduce the likelihood of their switching from a show during the opening commercial. A cold open may also be used to recap events in previous episodes or storylines that will be revisited during the current episode. The cold open technique is sometimes used in films.
