Thangjam Singh
Thangjam Saran Singh (born 1 March 1987) is an Indian association football, footballer who plays as a midfielder for Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League on loan from Salgaocar F.C. of the I-League. Early career Singh was born to Late Thangjam Sanatomba Singh and Thangjam Radhe Devi at Yumnam Khonou, Imphal. He is the youngest amongst four sisters and three brothers. Football came naturally to him as most of his family members along with his father were into football though no one played professionally. As a kid, he used to watch local matches where his family members used to play and started falling in love with the beautiful game, himself. But Singh's father had other plans for his son. He wanted to see him as an Army man one day and Singh was enrolled into Sainik School, Imphal through which he had a chance to make the cut for the National Defense Academy. 2014 Durand Cup
The 2014 Durand Cup was the 127th season of the Durand Cup, the third oldest football tournament in the world, which is a knock-out competition held in India. Mohammedan were the defending champions, having beaten ONGC 2–1 in the 2013 Final, but were knocked out in the quarter finals. The tournament was held from 20 October to 8 November with all matches in Goa. Salgaocar won the cup when they defeated Pune 1–0 in the final. The 2011 Durand Cup is the 124th edition of the Durand Cup, the third oldest association football competition in the world. Churchill Brothers won the 2011 Durand Cup at the Ambedkar Stadium with a 5–4 tie-break win over Prayag United. The 2010 Durand Cup Champions were Prayag United. The 122nd edition of the Durand Cup began on 11 September at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi. Nine I-League teams were scheduled to take part. The qualifiers were held starting on 2 September, with the final on 20 September. Two teams from the qualifier joined to make it a 12 team battle in the quarterfinals. 2008–09 I-League
The I-League 2008–2009 season began on 26 September 2008 and finished on 16 April 2009 with a break in December for the Federation Cup and Durand Cup. Most games this season were played on Saturday's and Sunday's to attract larger crowds. After a successful first season for the I League, the second season featured 12 teams from four cities – again this would be expanded in the 2009–10 season to 14 teams. The champion in the I-League qualified for the AFC Champions League 2010 qualifying playoffs in 2010, while the bottom two teams were relegated to I-League 2nd Division for the next season. The Federation Cup (also known as Hero Federation Cup for sponsorship reasons) was an annual knockout football competition in Indian football which started in 1977. From its inception, until I-League was started in 1997 (then called NFL), it was the most prestigious national level club football tournament in India. Until 2017, it was the most important club tournament after the I-League, to which it became a ''de facto'' League Cup. Winner of the Federation Cup was given direct entry in the AFC Cup.
