Thanduxolo Khalipha
Thanduxolo David Khalipha (born 26 January 1963) is a South African politician who has been the Executive Mayor of the Matjhabeng Local Municipality since 2021. He was a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from the Free State from 2019 to 2021. Khalipha is a member of the African National Congress. Political career A member of the African National Congress, Khalipha served as the ward councillor for ward 17 in the Matjhabeng Local Municipality before he was elected to parliament. Parliamentary career In 2019, he stood for election to the South African National Assembly as the 3rd candidate on the ANC's list of parliamentary candidates from the Free State. He was elected in the election and was sworn in as an MP on 22 May 2019. On 27 June 2019, he was named to the Portfolio Committee on Tourism. Matjhabeng Local Municipality
Matjhabeng Local Municipality is a local government serving an administrative area in the Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Lejweleputswa District of the Free State (South African province), Free State in South Africa. The municipality services Welkom, Virginia, Free State, Virginia, Odendaalsrus and Allanridge. The name is a Sesotho language, Sesotho word meaning "where nations meet". Busisiwe Mkhwebane
Busisiwe Mkhwebane is a South African advocate, prosecutor and ombudsman, who has served as the 4th Public Protector of South Africa from 2016 to 2022. Early life and education Mkhwebane was born in Bethal in the then Transvaal province (now Mpumalanga) on 2 February 1970, matriculating from Mkhephula Secondary School in 1988. She graduated with a BProc followed by an LLB from the University of the North (now the University of Limpopo). Subsequently, she obtained a diploma in corporate law and a higher diploma in tax from the Rand Afrikaans University (now the University of Johannesburg). 2021 South African Municipal Elections
The 2021 South African municipal elections were held on 1 November 2021, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It is the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, held every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016. On 21 April 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the elections will be held on Wednesday, 27 October 2021. It had been recommend by Dikgang Moseneke to delay the municipal elections until 2022. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) requested the Constitutional Court to support the date postponement. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supported the date postponement while the Democratic Alliance (DA) was against the postponement of the date. South African National Assembly
The National Assembly is the directly elected house of the Parliament of South Africa, located in Cape Town, Western Cape. It consists of four hundred members who are elected every five years using a party-list proportional representation system where half of the members are elected proportionally from nine provincial lists and the remaining half from national lists so as to restore proportionality. The National Assembly is presided over by a Speaker, assisted by a Deputy Speaker.
