Thamnophilus
''Thamnophilus'' is a genus of antbird in the antbird family, Thamnophilidae. The species in this genus are commonly known as antshrikes. They are insectivores that feed by gleaning prey from foliage and are found in the Neotropics. The genus ''Thamnophilus'' was introduced by the French ornithologist Louis Vieillot in 1816. The name combines the Ancient Greek words ''thamnos'' "bush" and ''philos'' "loving". The type species was subsequently designated as the barred antshrike. The genus contains the following species: * Collared antshrike, ''Thamnophilus bernardi'' * Black-backed antshrike, ''Thamnophilus melanonotus'' * Band-tailed antshrike, ''Thamnophilus melanothorax'' * Barred antshrike, ''Thamnophilus doliatus'' * Chapman's antshrike, ''Thamnophilus zarumae'' * Bar-crested antshrike, ''Thamnophilus multistriatus'' * Chestnut-backed antshrike, ''Thamnophilus palliatus'' * Lined antshrike, ''Thamnophilus tenuepunctatus'' * Black-hooded antshrike, ''Thamnophilus br ...

Barred Antshrike
The barred antshrike (''Thamnophilus doliatus'') is a passerine bird in the antbird family. It is found in the Neotropics from Tamaulipas, Mexico, through Central America, Trinidad and Tobago, and a large part of South America east of the Andes as far south as northern Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay. There is one accepted record from southern Texas. It is found in a wide range of wooded habitats (even gardens and parks) in both humid and arid regions. Throughout a large part of its range, it is among the most common antbirds. Taxonomy The barred antshrike was described by the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus in 1764 and given the binomial name ''Lanius doliatus''. The type locality was subsequently designated as Surinam. The specific epithet is from Neo-Latin ''doliatus'' meaning "barred". There are 12 recognised subspecies. Description The barred antshrike is in length, and weighs . This species exhibits marked sexual dimorphism. The male of the nominate race is barred all o ...

Blackish-grey Antshrike
The blackish-grey antshrike (''Thamnophilus nigrocinereus'') is a species of bird in the family Thamnophilidae, the antbirds. The species is found in Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, and eastern French Guiana; also a small river region of northeast Bolivia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical swamps. It got its name "blackish-grey antshrike" because of its blackish-grey color, distinguishing it from other antshrikes. Taxonomy The blackish-grey antshrike was described by the English zoologist Philip Sclater in 1855 and given the binomial name ''Thamnophilus nigrocinereus''. Distribution The blackish-grey antshrike is found in Brazil's southeastern Amazon Basin as well as along the Amazon River proper, and northwards at the Amazon's outlet, into the extreme eastern areas of French Guiana with Brazil's northeast state of Amapá. The southeast range extends slightly southwestward into that quadrant, about 1000–1400  ...

Black-backed Antshrike
The black-backed antshrike (''Thamnophilus melanonotus'') is a species of bird in the family Thamnophilidae. It is found in Colombia and Venezuela, where its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests. The black-backed antshrike was described by the English zoologist Philip Sclater in 1855 and given the binomial name ''Thamnophilus melanonotus''. It was subsequently placed in the genus '' Sakesphorus''. A molecular phylogenetic study published in 2007 found that ''Sakesphorus'' was polyphyletic and that three species including the black-backed antshrike were embedded within a clade containing members of '' Thamnophilus''. The black-backed antshrike was therefore moved back to its original genus. It previously included the Natterer's slaty antshrike, Bolivian slaty antshrike, Planalto slaty antshrike and Sooretama slaty antshrike as subspecies, in which case the combined species simply was referred to as the slaty antshrike. The northern slaty antshrike is found in north-eastern South America in Brazil, Venezuela and the Guianas. In Brazil, it occurs in the northeast quadrant of the Amazon Basin, (with the Guianas), and from the Brazilian state of Roraima in the west, to the states of Pará, and Amapá on the Atlantic at the Amazon River outlet. Acre Antshrike
The Acre antshrike (''Thamnophilus divisorius'') is a member of the antbird family (Thamnophilidae). Its closest relatives are the streak-backed antshrike and the Amazonian antshrike. It was discovered in 1996, in the Acre Arch uplands in the state of Acre in Brazil, and described as a species new to science in 2004. It is found in low-growing woodland. Its known range lies within the remote Serra do Divisor National Park in Brazil and the adjacent Sierra del Divisor National Park in Peru, but it is believed to be common there. Because of its apparently stable population, the International Union for Conservation of Nature has listed it as a species of least concern despite its relatively restricted range.
