The Thala Hills are low, rounded coastal hills between Freeth and Spooner Bays in Enderby Land, Antarctica. The hills were plotted from air photos taken by Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) in 1956. Thala Island () is the southern of two small, rocky islands lying just off the northwest edge of Davis Ice Piedmont, along the north coast of Victoria Land. Thala Rock is an isolated, submerged rock lying off the Vestfold Hills, about 0.3 nautical miles (0.6 km) from the western point of Turner Island, bearing 250. Thala ( ar, تالة, translit=Tāla) is a town and commune in Tunisia. It is located in the Kasserine Governorate since 1956. As of the 2004 census it had inhabitants. The altitude of Thala is , which makes it the highest and the coldest town in the country. History During the Roman Empire Thala was the site of a Roman settlement and was the seat of an ancient bishopric. It still has a titular absentee bishop (currently the auxiliary Bishop of Sydney, Richard Umbers), who is appointed by the Pope. In 1906, an attack by local bedouin on the French civil administration offices during the Thala-Kasserine Disturbances was the first violent resistance to French authority under the protectorate. Battle Of Thala
The siege of Thala, part of the Jugurthine War, was an investment of the Numidian town of Thala by a Roman army. The Romans were commanded by the proconsul Quintus Caecilius Metellus, the Thalans by an unknown Numidian commander. The Romans main objective was to capture the Numidian king Jugurtha who was reported to be in Thala, but he escaped before the legions reached the fortress town. Metellus then besieged the town to get hold of one of Jugurtha's treasuries which was stored in Thala. The fortress town was besieged for forty days after which most of its inhabitants committed suicide by setting fire to the town. Background King Masinissa of Numidia, who was a steadfast ally of Rome, died in 149, he was succeeded by his son Micipsa, who ruled from 149 to 118 BC.
