Thai Film Archive
The Film Archive (Public Organization) (FA; th, หอภาพยนตร์ (องค์การมหาชน)), also commonly referred to as the Thai Film Archive (TFA), is a film archive in Thailand. It was established in 1984 as the National Film Archive, operating under the Fine Arts Department. It was reorganized into a public organization under the oversight of the Ministry of Culture in 2009. It is located in the Phutthamonthon District of Nakhon Pathom Province. Salaya, Thailand
250px, Phutthamonthon, a Buddhist park, Salaya Subdistrict Salaya ( th, ศาลายา, ) is a ''tambon'' (sub-district) of Phutthamonthon district, Nakhon Pathom province, central Thailand, to the west of Bangkok and part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region. In 2017 it had a population of 9,784 people, Salaya contains six '' mubans'' (villages). History The word ''Salaya'' means 'medicine pavilion'. It got this name because in the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV), he ordered the digging of a '' khlong'' ('canal'), '' Khlong Maha Sawat'' through this area and building a '' salas'' ('Thai pavilion') on both banks of the khlong. For Salaya is a pavilion that contains textbooks about traditional Thai medicine for educating the general public, including being a sanatorium as well. Fine Arts Department (Thailand)
The Fine Arts Department ( th, กรมศิลปากร, ) is a government department of Thailand, under the Ministry of Culture. Its mission is managing the country's cultural heritage. History The department was originally established by King Vajiravudh in 1912, split off from the Palace's Religious Affairs Office, and was primarily concerned with protecting Buddhist monuments. In 1926, during the reign of King Prajadhipok, the department was merged into the Royal Society, along with the Museum Department and Archaeology Department, in effect consolidating several cultural heritage-related agencies. In 1933, following the abolition of absolute monarchy, the Royal Society's archaeological arm was split off and re-established as the Fine Arts Department under the Ministry of Education (then known as the Ministry of Public Instruction). National Film Heritage Registry
The National Film Heritage Registry of Thailand is a collection of historically and culturally significant films compiled and maintained by the Thai Film Archive for their recognition and preservation. The listed films range from historical footage to works of classic Thai cinema The cinema of Thailand dates back to the early days of filmmaking, when King Chulalongkorn's 1897 visit to Bern, Switzerland was recorded by François-Henri Lavancy-Clarke.
