Tha Hla Shwe
Tha Hla Shwe ( my, သာလှရွှေ; born 11 October 1940) is a Burmese physician who served as president of the Myanmar Red Cross Society from 2006 to 2016. He has also served as Rector of the University of Medicine 2, Yangon from 1992 to 2004. Early life and education Tha was born on 26 July 1940 in Rangoon, British Burma. He graduated high school from St. Paul's High School in Yangon in 1957. He enrolled at the Institute of Medicine 1, Yangon and graduated with MBBS degree in 1964. Following his medical degree, he went on to specialize in Preventive Medicine and Tropical Medicine, pursued further studies and received postgraduate diplomas from Institute of Medicine 1, Yangon in 1968, and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 1969. He later received Master of Science in education from University of Southern California in 1984 and an honorary Doctorate degree from Institute of Medicine 1, Yangon in 1999. Myanmar Red Cross Society
Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) was founded in 1937 and it was earlier called Burma Red Cross. It has its headquarters in Yangon. History In 1920, the Society came into existence as a branch of Indian Red Cross Society. When Burma was politically separated from India in 1937, it attained national status and was recognised as Burma Red Cross Society. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) recognised it as a National Society in 1939. The Society was admitted to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 1946. The Burma Red Cross Act was enacted in 1959 and amended subsequently in 1964, 1971 and 1988. Rakhine State
Rakhine State (; , , ; formerly known as Arakan State) is a Administrative divisions of Myanmar, state in Myanmar (Burma). Situated on the western coast, it is bordered by Chin State to the north, Magway Region, Bago Region and Ayeyarwady Region to the east, the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh to the northwest. Maungdaw District ( my, မောင်တောခရိုင်) is a district of Rakhine State in western Myanmar (Burma). Its capital city is Maungdaw and the population density is about 295 persons per square kilometer. Roughly 91 percent of Maungdaw District's population is Muslim, making it the district with the highest percentage of Muslims in Myanmar. In recent history, many Muslims have fled from this region to Bangladesh. Along with parts of neighbouring Sittwe District, Maungdaw District is also informally referred to as northern Rakhine State.
