Pasumpon Tha Krishnan (10 October 1937 – 20 May 2003) was an Indian politician. Krishnan was born on 10 October 1937 at Kombukkaranendal village, Tamil Nadu, in 1937. He was educated at Raja Dorai Singam Memorial College in Sivaganga and at Pachaiyappa's College, Madras. An agriculturalist by occupation, Krishnan became involved in social work as the secretary of the Red Cross Society in his native village. He took a keen interest in serving the poor and otherwise disadvantaged and was arrested on several occasions in connection with various agitations in favour of the people of Tamil Nadu. Krishnan was chairman of the Panchayat Union in Manamadurai from 1970 to 1976 and president of Theethanpettai village panchayat from 1970 to 1976. Krishnan was elected to the Fourth Lok Sabha in 1967-1971 and to the Fifth Lok Sabha in 1971-1977, on voth occasions from the Sivanganga parliamentary constituency. In India, a chief minister is the elected head of government of each state out of the 28 states and sometimes a union territory (UT; currently, only the UTs of Delhi and Puducherry have serving chief ministers). According to the Constitution of India, the governor is a state's head, but ''de facto'' executive authority rests with the chief minister. Following elections to the State legislative assembly or Vidhan Sabha in a state, the state's governor usually invites the party (or coalition) with a majority of seats to form the government. The governor appoints and swears in the chief minister, whose council of ministers are collectively responsible to the assembly. Karunanidhi
Muthuvel Karunanidhi (3 June 1924 – 7 August 2018) was an Indian writer and politician who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for almost two decades over five terms between 1969 and 2011. He was popularly referred to as Kalaignar (Artist) and Mutthamizh Arignar (Tamil Scholar) for his contributions to Tamil literature. He had the longest tenure as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu with 6,863 days in office. He was also a long-standing leader of the Dravidian movement and ten-time president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party. Karunanidhi has the record of never losing an election to the Tamil Nadu Assembly, having won 13 times since his first victory in 1957. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (; AIADMK) is an Indian regional political party with great influence in the state of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry. The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has a strength of 234 members of whom are democratically elected using the First-past-the-post voting, First-past-the-post system.
