Teya People
Teyas were a Native American people living near Lubbock, Texas who first made contact with Europeans in 1541 when Francisco Vásquez de Coronado traveled to them. The tribal affiliation and language of the Teyas is unknown, although many scholars believe they spoke a Caddoan language and were related to the Wichita tribe, whom Coronado encountered in Quivira. Apparently, Teyas was the name they were called by the Rio Grande Puebloans, Pueblo Indians. Identity of the Teyas Scholars differ in their guesses as to the identity of the Teyas and their language. Some anthropologists and historians speculate that they were Apache. Other scholars believe they were related to the Puebloans, Rio Grande Pueblos, perhaps speaking a Tanoan language. They may have later become known to the Spanish as the Jumano Indians, Jumano. Hacienda San Ildefonso Teya
Hacienda San Ildefonso Teya (aka Hacienda Teya) is located in the Kanasín Municipality in the state of Yucatán in southeastern Mexico. During the seventeenth century it was one of the largest and most profitable cattle ranches in Yucatán. It was converted to agriculture and during the nineteenth century was part of the henequen boom. The hacienda has been restored and converted into a hotel, restaurant and tourist center. Toponymy The name (San Ildefonso Teya) comes from Spanish and the Mayan language. ''San Ildefonso'' is the name of the saint who is the patron of the chapel and ''Teya'', is the Maya name for the sapadilla tree or Manilkara zapota. Teya Municipality
Teya Municipality (In the Yucatec Maya Language: “place of sapodilla”) is a municipality in the Mexican state of Yucatán containing (65.15 km2) of land and located roughly 65 km northeast of the city of Mérida. History Before the arrival of the Spanish, the area belonged to the chieftainship of Ah Kin Chel. After the conquest the area became part of the encomienda system. The encomienda was established in 1565 for Alonso de Castro. By 1678, the encomendero was Anastasio Chacón de Azcorran and in 1690, the encomendera passed to María Barbosa e Ignacia Salazar. Yucatán declared its independence from the Spanish Crown in 1821 and in 1825, the area was assigned to the Izamal Municipality. By April 1921 it was designated as its own municipality. Teodora Špirić (; born 12 April 2000), known professionally as Teya (stylised in all caps) and formerly as Thea Devy, is an Austrian singer and songwriter.
