State Highway 67 (SH 67) is a Texas state highway that runs between Breckenridge and Graham. History The route was originally designated on August 21, 1923, along renumbered portions of SH 22, SH 18, and SH 2 extending from Graham to Breckenridge, then southeast from Breckenridge, reaching the southern end of Waco. On July 31, 1929, SH 67 was to be rerouted away from Carlton and through Clairette and Alexander instead if bonds were voted. Graham, Texas
Graham is a city in north-central Texas. It is the county seat and largest city of Young County. History The site was first settled in 1871 by brothers Gustavus A. and Edwin S. Graham, primary shareholders in the Texas Emigration and Land Company of Louisville, Kentucky. The brothers moved to Texas after the Civil War, and after buying in then-vast Young County, helped to revitalize the area, the population of which had become badly depleted during the war. During that same year as when Graham was settled, the Warren Wagon Train Raid occurred about 12 miles north of the city. In 1872, the Graham brothers purchased a local saltworks, established the town of Graham, and set up the Graham Land Office. The saltworks were not a profitable venture, as the salt was too expensive to ship, and were closed in a few years. In the Houston area, it runs north to Farm to Market Road 1960 (FM 1960), then northwest along USS 290 to Hempstead, and south to Westheimer Road and Addicks, and is known as Addicks Satsuma Road. Possum Kingdom Lake
Possum Kingdom Lake (popularly known as P.K.), is a reservoir on the Brazos River located primarily in Palo Pinto County, TX, Palo Pinto County Texas. It was the first water supply reservoir constructed in the Brazos River basin. The lake has an area of approximately with of shoreline. It holds of water with available for water supply. The lake is impounded by the Morris Sheppard Dam, which was a project of the Brazos River Authority and the Works Progress Administration. Construction was begun in 1936 and completed in 1941. The dam is long and high. The construction is unique with buttressed arched wings on either side of the nine spillway gates rather than the usual filled concrete. Carlton, Texas
Carlton is an unincorporated community located in Hamilton County in Central Texas. It lies in the northeastern part of the county and has an estimated population of 70. History Carlton was founded in 1877 by a man named H.H. Armstrong on land owned by two local settlers; rancher J. M. Evans and Dr. F. M. Carlton, the town's namesake. With growth stimulated by its location on the major area stagecoach line, Carlton prospered through the late 1870s and by 1878 possessed its own school and several churches.
