State Highway 342 (SH 342) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas. The highway begins at a junction with U.S. Highway 77 (US 77) in Red Oak and heads north through Lancaster to a junction with Loop 12 (Loop 12) in Dallas. History SH 342 was designated on November 24, 1941 over a former alignment of US 77 from the current alignment of US 77 in Red Oak to Spur 260 (Commerce Street) in Dallas, as US 77 was rerouted over SH 197. On June 25, 1991, the northern terminus was changed to I-30 with the removal of the portion north of I-30 from the State Highway System and returned to the city of Dallas. On August 25, 1992, the highway was further truncated to Loop 12. The section from I-30 to Corinth Street in Dallas was removed from the State Highway System and returned to the city of Dallas. Red Oak is a city in Ellis County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The population was 10,769 at the 2010 census, up from 4,301 at the 2000 census. State Highway Loop 12 (Texas)
Loop 12 is a state highway that runs mostly within the city limits of Dallas, Texas. The western segment of the loop is named after General Walton Walker, who served and died in South Korea. During the 1950s and 1960s, Loop 12 was the outer beltway in the Dallas area, having since been supplanted by Interstate 635 (I-635), which is itself being supplanted by the President George Bush Turnpike (SH 190). Loop 12 is, however, the only state highway in Dallas that forms a complete loop ( Belt Line Road is also a complete loop but is not a state road except for a stretch as part of Farm to Market Road 1382). Interstate 20 in Texas (I-20) is a major east–west Interstate Highway in the Southern United States, running east from a junction with I-10 east of Kent, Texas, through the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex to the border with Louisiana near Waskom, Texas.
