Texas Longhorns Women's Volleyball
The Texas Longhorns women's volleyball team represents The University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I intercollegiate women's volleyball competition. The Longhorns currently compete in the Big 12 Conference. Texas has won four volleyball national championships – one AIAW championship in 1981 and three NCAA championships in 1988, 2012, and 2022. Beginning with the 1981 season, they have qualified for the AIAW/NCAA tournament every year except for two (40 of 42 seasons) and the most recent 19 years (2004-2022). The volleyball program was founded in 1974. It has had seven head coaches in its history – the first four lasted just 1–2 years each: Pam Lampley (1974), Cheryl Lyman (1975), Jody Conradt (1976–77) and Linda Lowery (1978-79). Mick Haley coached from 1980 to 1996 before leaving to coach the Olympic team followed by the head coaching job at USC. Jim Moore coached 1997–2000 and Jerritt Elliott has coached Texas since 2001. Jerritt Elliott
Jerritt Kurt Elliott (born April 28, 1968) is an American volleyball head coach of the Texas Longhorns women's volleyball team since 2001. Personal life Elliott is a native of California and graduated from Palisades High School in Pacific Palisades, California, where he was a high school standout in volleyball. He was teammates with Olympic gold medalist Kent Steffes and led his high school team to an undefeated 36-0 record during his senior year. After high school, he played men's volleyball at both Pepperdine from 1986-1988 and Hawai'i from 1989-1990 before graduating from Cal State Northridge in 1991 with a degree in kinesiology. Elliott married Andrea Nucete-Elliott in 2018. His first wife was Washington State University two-time All-American volleyball player Sarah Silvernail, whom he married in 2004. 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament
The 2014 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began on December 4 and concluded on December 20 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The tournament field was announced on November 30. Penn State defeated BYU in the finals to win the school's 7th NCAA title. Qualifying teams The champions of the NCAA's 32 conferences qualify automatically. Twenty-two conferences hold tournaments, while the other ten award their automatic bid on the basis of being the league's regular-season champion. Those that do not hold tournaments are the American Athletic, Atlantic Coast, Big 12, Big Ten, Big West, Ivy League, Mountain West, Pac-12, Southeastern and West Coast Conferences. 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament
The 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament began on December 2, 2021 and ended on December 18th, 2021, to determine the Division I National Champion in women's volleyball. Wisconsin won its first NCAA National Championship by defeating Big Ten rival Nebraska 3–2. The championship match was played in front of an NCAA record crowd of 18,755. The Final Four was held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The national semifinals were held on December 16 and the championship match was held on December 18. The 2006 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began on November 30, 2006 with 64 teams and concluded on December 16, 2006, when top ranked Nebraska defeated second ranked Stanford 3 sets to 1 in Omaha, Nebraska for the program's third NCAA title. The 1998 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began on December 3, 1998, with 64 teams and ended December 19 when Long Beach State defeated Penn State 3 games to 2 in Madison, Wisconsin, for the program's third NCAA title and fifth national title overall. The 1992 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began with 32 teams and ended on December 19, 1992, when Stanford defeated UCLA 3-1 in the NCAA championship match. Stanford won the program's first NCAA title after three previous runner-up finishes. UCLA was the top ranked team in the country and was undefeated coming into the match.
