The Texas Longhorns football program is the intercollegiate team representing the University of Texas at Austin (variously Texas or UT) in the sport of American football. The Texas Longhorns, Longhorns compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Their home games are played at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. In its second year under head coach Samuel Huston Thompson, the team compiled an 8–2–1 record, shut out seven opponents, and outscored opponents by a collective total of 153 to 71. 1910 Texas Longhorns Football Team
The 1910 Texas Longhorns football team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 1910 college football season. In their first year under head coach Billy Wasmund, the Longhorns compiled a 6–2 and outscored opponents by a collective total of 162 to 42. The game against Baylor ended in a forfeit when Baylor left in the third quarter, with the score tied 6–6, due to a dispute with the referee. Billy Wasmund
William Stephen Wasmund (December 1887 – October 4, 1911) was an American football player and coach. Wasmund was born in December 1887 in Michigan. His father, Lebrecht Wasmund, was a stone contractor born in Germany. Wasmund attended Lafayette College where he played fullback for the school's college football team for two years. Wasmund's play at Lafayette attracted the attention of Fielding H. Yost of the University of Michigan. Wasmund transferred to Michigan where Yost developed him into a quarterback. Wasmund was the Wolverines' starting quarterback for three years, from 1907 to 1909. In 1910, the University of Texas asked Yost to recommend a coach for the Texas varsity football team, and Wasmund was hired on Yost's recommendation. Wasmund led the Longhorns to a 6–2 record in 1910, and he was rehired to return as head coach in 1911. Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association
The Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association (TIAA) was a college sports association that operated from 1909 to 1932. All of its members were located in the US state of Texas. History Founded in 1909 by Southwestern University, Austin College, Texas Christian University, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor University and Trinity University the TIAA had a changing set of members that spun off into the Southwest Conference, Lone Star Conference and the Texas Conference. The league had been formed to rid college athletics of objectionable elements like gambling and place them entirely under the control of the schools. At first the league worked well, but soon the disparity in the sizes of the schools became an issue. The large state schools, with bigger stadiums and crowds, began to refuse to travel to the smaller schools and insisted on playing that at home.
