Benedictus Gotthelf Teubner
Benedictus Gotthelf Teubner (born 16 June 1784 in Grosskrausnik in Luckau in Lower Lusatia; died 21 January 1856 in Leipzig) was a German bookseller and the founder of a publishing company. Life Teubner was a printer. In 1811 he brought the printing press to Leipzig, which he would bring to importance within Germany. He founded another press in Dresden towards the end of the 18th century. The addition of a publishing business to the printing house followed in 1824, which published in the areas of philology and higher education in Germany. The well-known series of classical publications known as the Bibliotheca scriptorum graecorum et romanorum Teubneriana emerged from this. In Leipzig Teubner was a member of the ' Masonic lodge. Teubner died on 21 January 1856 in Leipzig and left the business to his sons-in-law Christian Adolf Roßbach (1822-1898) and . Porson is an influential typeface in the Greek alphabet based on the handwriting of the English classicist Richard Porson. Creation Porson was a classicist with very careful Greek handwriting. Italic Type
In typography, italic type is a cursive font based on a stylised form of calligraphic handwriting. Owing to the influence from calligraphy, italics normally slant slightly to the right. Italics are a way to emphasise key points in a printed text, to identify many types of creative works, to cite foreign words or phrases, or, when quoting a speaker, a way to show which words they stressed. One manual of English usage described italics as "the print equivalent of Underline, underlining"; in other words, underscore in a manuscript directs a typesetter to use italic.
