Tetyana Yablonska
Tetyana Nylivna Yablonska ( ukr, Тетяна Ниливна Ябло́нська; 24 February 1917 – 17 June 2005) was a Ukraine, Ukrainian Painting, painter. Her early vital pictures were devoted to the work and life of Ukrainian people ("Bread", 1949). She moved to general images of nature, delivering a subtlety of plastic and color rhythms ("Anonymous heights", 1969; "Flax", 1977). Yablonska was born in Smolensk, Russian Empire (modern-day Russia). She studied at the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture, Kyiv State Institute of Art (1941), the studio of Fedir Krychevsky. She worked very productively until the very end of her life, reportedly painting her last pastel etude on the very day of her death. Mikhail Turovsky
Mykhaylo Turovsky ( uk, Михайло Туровський, also Mikhail Turovsky; born in 1933 in Kyiv, in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union) is an American and Ukrainian artist- painter, and writer-aphorist, resident in New York City since 1979. Biography Early life and education Mikhail Turovsky was born in 1933 in Kyiv into the family of Shaul Turovsky, a taylor. During the Second World War, he was evacuated to Samarkand with his mother and an older brother. Although over the draft age, his father volunteered for active duty and was killed in action in 1943. Turovsky attended the art school in Samarkand. His classmates included Ilya Kabakov (later a noted conceptualist artist). Turovsky returned to Kyiv in 1944 and continued his studies at the Shevchenko State Art School. He later graduated from Kyiv Art Institute, where he studied under Tetyana Yablonska in 1960. People's Artist of the USSR ( rus, Народный артист СССР, Narodny artist SSSR), also sometimes translated as National Artist of the USSR, was an honorary title granted to artists of the Soviet Union. Nomenclature and significance The term is confusingly used to translate two Russian language titles: Народный артист СССР (fem. Народная артистка СССР), awarded in performing arts and Народный художник СССР, granted in some visual arts. Each Soviet Republic, as well as the Autonomous Republics (ASSRs), had a similar award held previously by virtually every receiver of the higher title of People's Artist of the USSR. As this title was granted by the government, honorees were afforded certain privileges and would often receive commissions from the Minister of Culture of the Soviet Union.
