Terry Segarty
Terence Patrick Segarty (born November 4, 1946) is an Irish-born mechanic, businessman and former political figure in British Columbia. He represented Kootenay in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1979 to 1986 as a Social Credit member. He was the son of Robert Segarty and Christine Gilligan and was educated in Ireland. In 1969, he married Hillary Mary Fitzpatrick. Segarty lived in Cranbrook. He was defeated by Anne Edwards Anne Edwards (born August 20, 1927) is an American writer best known for her biographies of celebrities that include Princess Diana, Maria Callas, Judy Garland, Katharine Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Margaret Mitchell, Ronald Reagan, Barbra Streisand ... when he ran for reelection to the assembly in 1986. Cranbrook ( ) is a city in southeast British Columbia, Canada, located on the west side of the Kootenay River at its confluence with the St. Mary River (British Columbia), St. Mary's River. It is the largest urban centre in the region known as the East Kootenay. As of Canada 2016 Census, 2016, Cranbrook's population is 20,047 with a Census geographic units of Canada#Census agglomerations, census agglomeration population of 26,083. British Columbia Social Credit Party
The British Columbia Social Credit Party, whose members are known as Socreds, was the governing provincial political party of British Columbia, Canada, for all but three years between the 1952 provincial election and the 1991 election. For four decades, the party dominated the British Columbian political scene, with the only break occurring between the 1972 and 1975 elections when the British Columbia New Democratic Party governed. Although founded as part of the Canadian social credit movement, promoting social credit policies of monetary reform, the BC Social Credit Party later discarded the ideology and became a political vehicle for fiscal conservatives and later social conservatives in British Columbia. The party essentially collapsed within one term of its 1991 defeat. Kootenay (electoral District)
Kootenay was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1917. This riding was created in 1903 from the eastern part of Yale—Cariboo riding, namely areas part of the Kootenay Land District, whose boundaries formed the federal electoral district boundary, and also defined the Kootenay provincial riding's boundaries. The federal Kootenay riding was abolished in 1914 when it was redistributed into Kootenay East and Kootenay West ridings. Kootenay was a provincial electoral district in the province of British Columbia, Canada, from 1871 to 1890. It was originally a two-member riding until the 1875 election; from 1878, it was a one-member seat until its partition for the 1890 election into East Kootenay and West Kootenay.
