Terry Mayne
Terrence Neville Mayne (24 December 1950 – 11 April 1983) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1970s. At the age of just 19, Mayne became a Clarence premiership player when he kicked ten goals against New Norfolk in the 1970 TANFL Grand Final. His tally helped Clarence win by 55 points and equaled the league's Grand Final record, which Alan Rait set in 1932. The following season, Mayne was the TANFL leading goal-kicker with 74 goals and was picked up by Geelong. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Alan Rait
Alan Edward Rait (9 November 1908 – 24 March 1965) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He also played with North Hobart in the TANFL, kicking 847 goals and topping the league's goal-kicking eight times. Family The son of James Fulton Rait (1880–1946) and Florence Agnes Green (1876–1969), Alan Edward Rait was born in the Hobart suburb of Glebe on 9 November 1908. The 1973 VFL season was the 77th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria.
