Terry L. Grove
Terry L. Grove was the past chairman of the International Scouting Collectors Association (ISCA). Grove was also a retired United Church of Christ minister and Scouter. He served on the executive board of the Central Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Grove graduated from Juniata College and Bethany Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree, then a Doctor of Ministry degree. He served as the minister of Altamonte Chapel in Altamonte Springs, Florida and was a former member of the board of Habitat for Humanity for Seminole County and Greater Apopka. Background He was ordained in 1967, serving Church of the Brethren pastorates in Florida, Washington and Indiana. From 1973 to 1997 he was a regional director for the Church Rural Overseas Program of the Church World Service. Grove's life-long avocation has been Scouting. A bracket is either of two tall fore- or back-facing punctuation marks commonly used to isolate a segment of text or data from its surroundings. Advancement and recognition in the Boy Scouts of America is a tradition dating from the inception of the Scouting movement. A fundamental purpose of advancement is the self-confidence a young man or woman acquires from his participation in Scouting. Advancement is one of the methods used in the "Aims of Scouting"– character development, citizenship training and personal fitness. National Order of the Arrow Conference The National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) is a multi-day event which usually takes place on a university campus east of the Mississippi River, bringing together thousands of delegates from Order of the Arrow lodges around the nation for training and activities. NOACs are held every two years, with exceptions made to align the event with significant anniversaries. In particular, the deferral from 2008 to 2009 aligned the schedule with the Order of the Arrow's 100th anniversary in 2015 and avoided a conflict with the 2010 National Scout Jamboree (which was similarly deferred from 2009 to align its schedule with the Boy Scouts of America's 100th anniversary in 2010). 2010 National Scout Jamboree
The 2010 National Scout Jamboree was the 17th national Scout jamboree of the Boy Scouts of America and was held from July 26 to August 4, 2010 at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. The 2010 National Scout Jamboree celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America and was the last jamboree held at Fort A.P. Hill. With more than 50,000 in attendance, the 2010 National Scout Jamboree was the largest overall since 1973, and the largest at a single location since 1964. All subsequent jamborees have been held permanently at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, the Boy Scouts of America's fourth High Adventure base. The 2005 National Scout Jamboree was the 16th national Scout jamboree of the Boy Scouts of America and was held from July 25, 2005 through August 3, 2005 at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. Normally, the next jamboree would be held four years afterward in 2009, but the date was changed so that the next jamboree could take place in 2010, the centennial anniversary of Scouting in the United States. National Scouting Museum
The National Scouting Museum is the official museum of the Boy Scouts of America. Background The museum was first opened in 1959 in North Brunswick, New Jersey as the Johnston Memorial Museum. With the relocation of the Boy Scouts of America National Headquarters from New Jersey to Texas, the museum closed in 1979. In 1986 the museum reopened on the campus of Murray State University in western Kentucky. Museum officials had predicted that 120,000 people annually would visit the Kentucky location, but by the late 1990s yearly attendance was under 20,000. In October 2002 the museum moved to Irving, Texas, across the road from the Boy Scouts of America National Headquarters. The Irving museum closed on September 4, 2017. On May 29, 2018 the museum reopened at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, with a grand opening on September 15, 2018. Distinguished Eagle Scout Award
The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA) is a distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). It is awarded to an Eagle Scout for distinguished service in his profession and to his community for a period of at least 25 years after attaining the level of Eagle Scout. Other requirements include significant accomplishment in one's career and a solid record of continued community volunteer involvement. It is one of only two BSA awards given to adults that is dependent upon the recipient's having been awarded Eagle Scout as a youth; the other is the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (NOESA). Silver Beaver
The Silver Beaver Award is the council-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. Upon nomination by their local Scout council and with the approval of the National Court of Honor, recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council. The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who do not seek it. Award The medal consists of a silver beaver pendant suspended from a blue and white ribbon worn around the neck.
