Terrance Pieters
Terrance Pieters (born 14 December 1996) is a Dutch professional field hockey player who plays as a forward for the Netherlands at international level and also plays as a forward for Kampong. He is the first person of colour to play for the Netherlands men's national field hockey team. Biography He was born to a Surinamese mother and to Dutch father of Indonesian origin. His elder sister Melissa Pieters is also a field hockey player. Both he and his elder sister grew and raised up in Almere which is a multicultural city. During his childhood days, just like fellow young boys of colour, he also dreamed of pursuing his interest in the sport of football with even aiming to play for world renowned clubs like Manchester United and Barcelona. He even idolised former Ivorian veteran footballer Didier Drogba and had since worn the No 11 jersey as a sign of respect to him. Kampong (field Hockey Club)
Sportvereniging Kampong Hockey (, ), also known as SV Kampong or simply Kampong, is a Dutch professional field hockey club based in Utrecht. It was founded in 1902, making it the second-oldest hockey club in the Netherlands. Both the men's and the women's 1st XI compete in the Hoofdklasse, the country's top-tier league. The men's team won the play-off final in the 2023-24 season after finishing 3rd in the regular season. They lost the 2023–24 Men's Euro Hockey League final to Pinoké. Etymology The term 'kampong' / ꦏꦩ꧀ꦥꦸꦁ (''kampung'', ) is Javanese in origin and means "village". The founders of the club lived in the Zeeheldenbuurt (Utrecht), which was nicknamed 'kampong' for its many inhabitants who had lived Dutch East Indies or served in the Netherlands Armed Forces in the Dutch East Indies. 2017 Men's EuroHockey Junior Championship
The 2017 Men's EuroHockey Junior Championship was the 18th edition of the men's EuroHockey Junior Championship, the biennial international men's under-21 field hockey championship of Europe organized by the European Hockey Federation. It was held alongside the women's tournament in Valencia, Spain between 28 August and 3 September 2017. The defending champions, the Netherlands won the tournament for the 9th time by defeating Belgium 5–3 in a shoot-out after the final finished in a 2–2 draw. The third-place match between Germany and Spain was cancelled due to illness. 2022–23 Men's FIH Pro League
The 2022–23 Men's FIH Pro League was the fourth edition of the Men's FIH Pro League, a field hockey championship for men's national teams. The tournament began on 28 October 2022 and finished on 5 July 2023. The Netherlands won their second title. Format The FIH changed the format for this season as there were no home and away matches and the season was divided into date blocks. To reduce financial and logistical issues, a set of three teams gathered at one venue and a "mini tournament" was contested where each team played two matches against one another. The changed format also reduced the issue of travel time and minimised the burden on players. Point system and rankings The winning team got three points. The 2021–22 Men's FIH Pro League was the third edition of the Men's FIH Pro League, a field hockey championship for men's national teams. The tournament started on 16 October 2021 and finished on 26 June 2022. Format The home and away principle was kept but this principle was split over two consecutive seasons and worked according to the following example: *in previous season 2020–21, Team A hosted Team B twice within a couple of days. *in current season 2021–22, Team B hosted Team A twice within a couple of days.
