''Terramatta: The Italian Twentieth Century of Vincenzo Rabito Sicilian illiterate'' ( it, Terramatta: Il Novecento italiano di Vincenzo Rabito analfabeta siciliano) is a 2012 documentary directed by Costanza Quatriglio, based on the memoir ''Terra Matta'' by Vincenzo Rabito. Winner of several awards, including the Nastro d'Argento 2013, it was shown in all major Italian cities. Plot The film is centered around narration of excerpts from Vincenzo Rabito's memoir, ''Terra Matta''. Rabito begins with his background in Sicily. He was born in 1899, and at a young age, he was pulled out of school to earn a wage for his family after the death of his father. As a teenager, he was drafted to fight in World War I. In some excerpts, he relates some of the atrocities he committed during the war, including assisting a friend in sexually torturing a young Italian woman. Costanza Quatriglio
Costanza Quatriglio (born 6 January 1973) is an Italian film director, documentarist and screenwriter. Life and career Born in Palermo, Quatriglio got a degree in law at the Palermo University and later enrolled at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, graduating in direction. After directing some shorts and documentaries, she made her feature film debut with ''The Island'', which premiered at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight section. Her 2012 documentary film ''Terramatta'' premiered at the 69th Venice International Film Festival and was awarded a Nastro d'Argento for best documentary film. Her 2013 short film ''Con il fiato sospeso'' won the Gillo Pontecorvo Award at the 70th Venice International Film Festival. Chiara Ottaviano, (Ragusa, 1955) is an Italian historian, writer and film director. Biography After obtaining a degree in philosophy, at the Università di Catania, thanks to scholarships of ''Einaudi Foundation'' of Torino, has done research on social and cultural history in Italy, England and South Africa. Paolo Buonvino (born 29 March 1968) is an Italian composer, musician, conductor, and music arranger. Life and career Buonvino was born on 29 March 1968 in Scordia, a comune in Sicily, Italy. He earned his Piano Bachelor-Degree from the Conservatorio Francesco Cilea in Reggio Calabria and a Master-Degree in Music Disciplines from the University of Bologna.
