Tera-10
TERA-10 is a supercomputer built by Bull SA for the French Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique, (Atomic Energy Commission). TERA-10 was ranked 142nd on the TOP500 list in 2010. By 2015 it had dropped off the bottom of the list. It runs at 52.84  teraFLOPs (52.84 trillion floating-point calculations per second) using nearly 10,000 processor cores (in about 4800 dual-core processors). It runs the Linux operating system, with an SMP kernel specially modified to handle very large symmetric clusters currently cadenced by an 8-processors central system. Its main application is the simulation of atomic experiences and the maintenance of the French nuclear defence force, using the results of true nuclear tests (between 1956 and 1995, most of them in the French Nuclear Test Plant in the Pacific) and the new results obtained from the LMJ (''Laser Mega-Joule'') built in continental France. Tera-100
Tera 100 is a supercomputer built by Bull SA for the French Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique. On May 26, 2010, Tera 100 was turned on. The computer, which is located in Essonne is able to sustain around 1 petaFLOPs maximum performance and a peak at 1.25 petaFLOPs. It has 4300 Bullx Series S servers ('Mesca'), 140,000 Intel Xeon 7500 processor cores, and 300  TB of memory. The Interconnect is QDR InfiniBand. Supercomputing In Europe
Several centers for supercomputing exist across Europe, and distributed access to them is coordinated by European initiatives to facilitate high-performance computing. One such initiative, the HPC Europa project, fits within the Distributed European Infrastructure for Supercomputing Applications (DEISA), which was formed in 2002 as a consortium of eleven supercomputing centers from seven European countries. Operating within the CORDIS framework, HPC Europa aims to provide access to supercomputers across Europe. Supercomputer
A supercomputer is a computer with a high level of performance as compared to a general-purpose computer. The performance of a supercomputer is commonly measured in floating-point operations per second ( FLOPS) instead of million instructions per second (MIPS). Since 2017, there have existed supercomputers which can perform over 1017 FLOPS (a hundred quadrillion FLOPS, 100 petaFLOPS or 100 PFLOPS). TOP500
The TOP500 project ranks and details the 500 most powerful non-distributed computing, distributed computer systems in the world. The project was started in 1993 and publishes an updated list of the supercomputers twice a year. In computing, floating point operations per second (FLOPS, flops or flop/s) is a measure of computer performance, useful in fields of scientific computations that require floating-point calculations. For such cases, it is a more accurate measure than measuring instructions per second.
