Tepeköy, Gökçeada
Tepeköy, also known by its former Greek name Agrídia ( el, Αγρίδια), is a village on the island of Imbros in northwestern Turkey. It is part of the Gökçeada District of Çanakkale Province. Its population is 177 (2022). Geography It is located 8 km west of the only town of the island, Gökçeada (town), Çınarlı (or in Greek language, Greek Panagia Balomeni), and 14 km west from the central port of the island. It stands at an altitude of approximately 280m nearby Kastri hill. History & Demography The village had a total population of 177 in 2022, a notable increase since 2007, when it only had 125 inhabitants. Muhtar (title)
A muhtar is the elected village head in villages of Turkey. In cities, likewise, each neighbourhood has a muhtar but with a slightly different status. Muhtars and their village councils ( tr, Azalar or İhtiyar heyeti) are elected during local elections for five years. However, political parties are not permitted to nominate candidates for these posts. Rural muhtars In each village, the muhtar is the highest elected authority of the village. (There is no mayor in a village.) Çanakkale Province ( tr, ) is a province of Turkey, located in the northwestern part of the country. It takes its name from the city of Çanakkale. Like Istanbul, Çanakkale province has a European (Thrace) and an Asian (Anatolia) part.
