Tep Vanny
Tep Vanny (born 12 April 1980) is a prominent land rights activist and human rights defender, leader and creator of Boeung Kak 13, an activist group that has led peaceful protests since 2008 against the Cambodian government leasing land to the Shukaku corporation, which has led to the forcible eviction of almost 20,000 people in the region of Boeung Kak Lake in Phnom Penh. Her arrest and detention sparked an international campaign asking for her release. Background Tep Vanny originally lived in the Kandal Province before moving to Phnom Penh in 1998, where she worked as a grocery seller. Women human rights defenders (WHRDs) are women who defend human rights, and defenders of all genders who defend the rights of women and rights related to gender and sexuality. Hun Sen (; km, ហ៊ុន សែន, ; born 5 August 1952) is a Cambodian politician and former military commander who has served as the prime minister of Cambodia since 1985. Norodom Sihamoni ( km, នរោត្តម សីហមុនី, ; born 14 May 1953) is King of Cambodia. He became King on 14 October 2004, a week after the abdication of his father, Norodom Sihanouk. Oknha Lau Ming Kan (born 1 January 1944, ; ; also spelt Lau Meng Khin or Lao Meng Khin) is a Cambodian senator and businessman. He owns Pheapimex, a major conglomerate with his wife Choeung Sopheap. The majority of his fortune comes from logging and other sectors, including lucrative joint ventures with Chinese investors.
