Tep Sothy
Tep Sothy ( km, ទេព សុទ្ធី; born February 13, 1973) is a Cambodian politician and former Member of Parliament for Takeo province. She represented the Takeo province since the Cambodia National Rescue Party won 55 seats in 2013 Cambodian general election. Before coming to Cambodia, Sothy was a high school teacher in Chicago. In 2010, she decided to join Cambodia's Human Rights Party established and led by Kem Sokha who previously led the Cambodian Center for Human Rights in Phnom Penh for several years. Tep decided to move to Cambodia shortly before the 2013 National Elections. She told Voice of America Khmer Service in 2010 that she joined the political party because Kem Sokha was really "a great, moral, freedom-seeking leader." The Parliament of Cambodia ( km, សភាតំណាងរាស្ត្រ, ) is the bicameral legislature of the Cambodia consisting of the Senate and the National Assembly. The parliament is composed of 187 members, 125 MPs and 62 senators. 2013 Cambodian General Election
General elections were held in Cambodia on 28 July 2013. The National Election Committee (NEC) announced that some 9.67 million Cambodians were eligible to cast their ballots to elect the 123-seat National Assembly. Voter turnout was reported to be 69.6%, a record low for a general election. Polling precincts opened 7:00 a.m. and closed at 3:00 p.m. The Cambodian Minister of Information, Khieu Kanharith announced in preliminary results that the Cambodian People's Party won 68 seats and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party won all the remaining 55 seats. This election marked the largest seat loss by the Cambodian People's Party to date, and their lowest share of seats since 1998. Sam Rainsy Party
The Candlelight Party ( km, គណបក្សភ្លើងទៀន) is a liberal party in Cambodia. The party was a member of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats, Liberal International, and the Alliance of Democrats. It is the largest opposition party in Cambodia, and the main challenger to the ruling Cambodian People's Party. The party resumed political activity in October 2021 after being inactive since 2012. The party, founded in 1995 as the Khmer Nation Party, renamed the Sam Rainsy Party in 1998, and recently in 2018, it was renamed the Candlelight Party. This party is currently the official opposition to the ruling Cambodian People's Party. Phnom Penh (; km, ភ្នំពេញ, ) is the capital and most populous city of Cambodia. Cambodian Center For Human Rights
The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR; km, មជ្ឈមណ្ឌលសិទ្ធិមនុស្សកម្ពុជា) is a non-partisan, independent, non-governmental organization that works to promote and protect democracy and respect for human rights throughout Cambodia. It focuses primarily on civil and political rights and on a variety of interlinked human rights issues. Kem Sokha ( km, កឹម សុខា; born 27 June 1953) is a Cambodia, Cambodian politician and activist who most recently served as the President of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP). He served as the Minority Leader (Cambodia), Minority Leader, the highest-ranking opposition parliamentarian, of the National Assembly of Cambodia, National Assembly from December 2016 to January 2017, and previously as the First Vice President of the National Assembly from August 2014 to October 2015. He represented Kampong Cham (National Assembly constituency), Kampong Cham as its Member of Parliament (MP) from 2008 to 2017.
