Tennyson is a southern riverside suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Tennyson had a population of 1,019 people. Geography Tennyson is by road south-west of the Brisbane GPO. It is on the southern bank of the Brisbane River. The Corinda–Yeerongpilly railway line (also known as the Tennyson railway line) enters the suburb from the south-west (Sherwood) and exits to the east (Yeerongpilly). 2016 Brisbane City Council Election
Elections to Brisbane City Council were held on Saturday, 19 March 2016 to elect a councillor to each of the local government area's 26 wards and the direct election of the Lord Mayor of Brisbane. The election resulted in the comprehensive re-election of the Liberal National Party under Graham Quirk as Lord Mayor. The Liberal National's increased their representation by one ward to a total of 19 of 26. The lord mayoral result of 59.3% of the two-party-preferred vote was reduced for Quirk from the 69.5% result at the previous election. The main opposition party, the Labor Party was reduced to just 5 wards; its worst result in over a decade. The Queensland Greens won their first ward in this election. Brisbane City Council (BCC) is the democratic executive local government authority for the City of Brisbane, the capital city of the state of Queensland, Australia. A ward is a local authority area, typically used for electoral purposes. In some countries, wards are usually named after neighbourhoods, thoroughfares, parishes, landmarks, geographical features and in some cases historical figures connected to the area (e.g. William Morris Ward in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, England). Chelmer is a south-western suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Chelmer had a population of 2,998 people. Geography Chelmer is by road from Brisbane GPO. Chelmer is zoned as a residential area, and consists of low-density housing. It has many fine Queenslanders, characterised by wooden verandahs, wide stairways and roofing of galvanized iron, but in recent years solid brick homes have been built also. Corinda, Queensland
Corinda is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Corinda had a population of 5,064 people. History The suburb takes its name from the Corinda railway station, which in turn was likely named after a local cattle station owned by Sir Arthur Palmer, which he named after his Corinda pastoral station near Aramac. Corinda was first settled in the 1860s as a small farming community. Among the original settlers was the Francis family who in 1862 purchased 21 acres, which extended from the Brisbane River to Francis Lookout, a local heritage listed landmark on Dewar Terrace. Francis Lookout survives to this day, and includes a small burial ground opened in 1862. Its ten graves include those of some of the pioneer settlers. Geography Fairfield is located south of the Brisbane CBD on the Brisbane River. The suburb is mainly residential with house and unit accommodation. Graceville is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Graceville had a population of 4,634 people. Sherwood is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Sherwood had a population of 5,313 people. Geography Sherwood is south west of the Brisbane CBD and bounded by the median of the Brisbane River towards the west. Yeronga is a southern riverside suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Yeronga had a population of 6,535 people. Geography The suburb is bounded to the west and north by the Brisbane River and to the south-east by Ipswich Road. A total of 16 streets in the Yeronga West area begin with the letter O, including Orvieto Road, Orsova Road and Oriana Crescent, locally known as the 'O zone'.
