Tennis At The 1924 Summer Olympics – Men's Singles
The men's singles tennis competition was one of five tennis events at the 1924 Summer Olympics. There were 82 competitors from 27 nations. Nations were limited to four players each, as they had been in 1920. The event was won by Vincent Richards of the United States, the nation's first victory in the event since 1904 and second overall (tied with South Africa for second-most all-time behind Great Britain's three wins). France and Italy each earned their first men's singles tennis medals, with Henri Cochet's silver and Uberto De Morpurgo's bronze, respectively. Background This was the seventh appearance of the men's singles tennis event. Albert Lammens
Albert Lammens (17 June 1890 – 7 October 1933) was a Belgian tennis player who represented Belgium in the Davis Cup and the Olympic Games. In 1919 Lammens won the singles title at the Belgian Championships and with Jean Washer won the doubles title in 1920 and 1921. Ivie Richardson
Ivie John Richardson (16 January 1895 – 10 January 1960) was a male tennis player from South Africa. In 1924 Richardson and his compatriot partner Jack Condon competed in the men's doubles event at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris and reached the semifinal, defeating the American team of R. Norris Williams and Watson Washburn in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal they were defeated in four sets by the French team of Jacques Brugnon and Henri Cochet and in the bronze medal match lost in straight sets to René Lacoste and Jean Borotra. In the singles event he lost in the third round to Cochet. Hendrik ("Henk") Timmer (; 8 February 1904 – 13 November 1998) was a Dutch sportsman, who primarily played tennis. Born in Utrecht, Timmer also won golf tournaments, became Dutch squash champion, played badminton and hockey. He died aged 94 in Bilthoven, four days before his former doubles partner Kea Bouman.
