The 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games was the sixth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games which started in 2000. The games were held from 19 to 23 July 2017 64 nations participated at the games. The Bahamas 2017 was the largest international sporting event ever to be hosted in The Bahamas, and the largest-ever edition of the Youth Games, with up to 1300 athletes. During the opening ceremony the Prime Minister of the Bahamas Hubert Minnis declared the games officially open. It was the first the time that the tournament was opened by a prime minister instead of a monarch or a president. Host selection They were planned to be held in Castries, the capital of Saint Lucia, but Saint Lucia withdrew in 2015, citing financial difficulties. Nassau ( ) is the capital and largest city of the Bahamas. Beach Soccer At The 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games
The beach soccer competition at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games was held in Nassau, Bahamas from 19 to 22 July 2017 at the National Beach Soccer Arena, at Malcolm Park. Two events took place, the boys' tournament and the girls' tournament. A total of eight teams from six countries took part; each consisting of ten players for a total of 80 competing athletes – 40 boys and 40 girls. All competitors were aged between 16 and 18. Each respective event began with a round robin group stage. The teams in 1st and 2nd place advanced to the gold medal match. The teams in 3rd and 4th advanced to the bronze medal match. The boys' event was won by Saint Lucia and the girls event was won by Trinidad and Tobago. Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Beach Volleyball
Beach volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of two or more players on a sand court divided by a net. Similar to indoor volleyball, the objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and to ground it on the opponent's side of the court. Each team also works in unison to prevent the opposing team from grounding the ball on their side of the court. Teams are allowed up to three touches to return the ball across the net, and individual players may not touch the ball twice consecutively except after a touch off an attempted block. Beach soccer, also known as beach football, sand football or beasal, is a variant of association football played on a beach or some form of sand. Whilst football has been played informally on beaches, the introduction of ''beach soccer'' was an attempt to codify rules for the game. This was done in 1992 by the founders of Beach Soccer Worldwide, a company set up to develop the sport and responsible for the majority of its tournaments. Rugby Sevens At The 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games
The Rugby sevens competition at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas was held in July 2017 at Queen Elizabeth Sporting Complex. A total of 10 nations competed in this tournament. There were 6 teams in the boys event and 6 teams in the girls event. Each team played the other once in the group stage. The 5th and 6th placed teams played the 5th place playoff, the 3rd and 4th played the bronze-medal match and the 1st and 2nd placed teams played the gold-medal match.
