Tennessee Valley Tigers
The Huntsville Tigers is a women's American football team located in Huntsville, Alabama. The Tigers played their first season of full-contact football in the spring of 2012. This was the Tigers' first season as a new team. The team consists of former Alabama Renegades and Tennessee Valley Tigers players as well as a number of new players. History Alabama Renegades Women's football has existed in the Huntsville area since the fall of 2000 when the Alabama Renegades first came into existence. The Renegades were one of the founding teams of the National Women's Football Association (NWFA). In the fall 2000, the Alabama Renegades and the Nashville Dream played a six-game exhibition season to determine the viability of a women's full-contact football league. The exhibition games were a huge success and the National Women's Football Association (NWFA) expanded to 12 teams in its first full season of play in the spring of 2001. American Football
American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with possession of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with the ball or passing it, while the defense, the team without possession of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and to take control of the ball for themselves. The offense must advance at least ten yards in four downs or plays; if they fail, they turn over the football to the defense, but if they succeed, they are given a new set of four downs to continue the drive. Memphis Belles
The Memphis Belles were a women's professional tackle football team and members of the Independent Women's Football League. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, the Memphis Belles played their 2010 home games at Halle Stadium football field in Memphis, Tennessee. At one point, in their fourth year of operation, the Memphis Belles were the longest-running women's tackle football team in Memphis history. In their inaugural season (2008), the Memphis Belles played in the National Women's Football Association. When the NWFA folded in 2009, the Memphis Belles moved to the Women's Football Alliance. In 2010, the Memphis Belles moved to the Independent Women's Football League, the longest-running and most successful league in the history of Women's Professional Tackle Football, where they made the Midwest Divisional Playoffs. New Jersey Titans
The New Jersey Titans were a team of the Women's Spring Football League (WSFL) 11-woman division. Originally based in Wayne, New Jersey, the Titans played their home games on the campus of Passaic County Technical Institute through their 2010 season. Upon their return for the 2012 season, the Titans relocated their home games to Belleville Municipal Stadium in Belleville, New Jersey. Before joining the WSFL, the Titans played a season each in the Women's Professional Football League and the National Women's Football Association (both of which have since gone moribund), as well as two seasons in the Women's Football Alliance before taking the 2011 season off. Cape Fear Thunder
The Cape Fear Thunder is a football team in the Women's Spring Football League (WSFL) based in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Home games are played at John P. Daskyll Stadium on the campus of Reid Ross High School. The Thunder began in 2003 as the Fayetteville Thunder in the Women's Football League. After a one-season hiatus, the team returned to action as the Cape Fear Thunder. In 2005 and 2006, the Thunder played in the Women's Professional Football League. From 2007 to 2009, the Thunder competed in the Independent Women's Football League. 2011 saw the team moving to a new women's football league, the Women's Spring Football League. Memphis Dynasty
The Memphis Dynasty is a team of the United States Women's Football League which began play for the 2010 season in the Women's Football Alliance. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, home games were played at Evangelical Christian School. For its inaugural season, the Dynasty was known as the Memphis Soul, in the season thereafter, they went without a nickname. In 2012, the team adopted the nickname "Dynasty". After 3 seasons in the WFA, the team moved to the WSFL and continued to play as the Dynasty until the end of the 2014 season. At the end of the 2014 season, the team decided to disband. There were four players that played with the franchise all five years, Ashley Bembow-Scarbough, Terri Gilchrist, Jessica (JP) Plunkett, and Sharon Tatum. The head coach, David Gilchrist, was the only coach to remain for all five seasons. Over the five years of play, the Dynasty compiled a winning percentage of 78.7% (37–10).
