Tennessee State University Marching Band
Tennessee State University's marching band is known as the "Aristocrat of Bands" (AOB). History The band, much like the stage band of the time known as the Jazz Collegians of Tennessee State University, were primarily student led organizations when they first emerged after the schools founding. Although band was offered as a class, there were no full-time Director on staff in the early decades of the band’s formation, leaving the task to other faculty members, primarily music faculty members, as a supervisory role of sorts. With the new hire of President Walter Davis, there was a broader vision for the band program for the future. It was upon Davis’ request for the band's for the band to be more active in supporting the athletics, which called for a full-time Director of Bands position. Tennessee State University (Tennessee State, Tenn State, or TSU) is a public historically black land-grant university in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. Honda Battle Of The Bands
The Honda Battle of the Bands (sometimes abbreviated The Honda or HBOB) is an annual marching band exhibition in the United States which features performances by bands from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Sponsored by the American Honda Motor Company, the Invitational Showcase took place in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia in late January from 2003 to 2020. In 2022, it was announced HBOB selected Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama to be the first ever HBCU campus to host the in-person event in February 2023. The Tennessee Titans are a professional American football team based in Nashville, Tennessee. Drum Majors
A drum major or field commander is the leader of a marching band, drum and bugle corps, or pipe band, usually positioned at the head of the band or corps. The drum major is often dressed in more ornate clothing than the rest of the band or corps and is responsible for providing commands to the ensemble, leading them while marching, and directing them what to play, when to play, the dynamic or volume of playing, and what time to keep. The commands may be given verbally, through hand gestures, using a whistle or a baton, or with a mace. Although the drum major is the one conducting for the entire band to see and watch to keep time, the drum major is actually looking at the center snare's feet to keep time. The Urban Hymnal
''The Urban Hymnal'' is a 2022 debut album by Tennessee State University (TSU) marching band Aristocrat of Bands (AOB). Recording and release The album came about when Sir the Baptist visited the TSU campus and saw AOB performing. He suggested that he could record the group during an artist residency, and the recording took place on campus, with final editing being completed in mid-2022. Dallas Austin came in to produce the album with Sir. Word spread in the Gospel music community, leading to several established pop Gospel artists appearing on the album, as well as faculty and staff of the university. The Aristocrat of Bands submitted the recording for Grammy consideration in August 2022, in the category Best Gospel Roots Album. The band promoted the album by performing at the half-time show of a Tennessee Titans game.
