State Route 461 (SR 461) is a state highway located entirely in Stewart County, Tennessee. Route description SR 461 begins at an intersection with US 79 with unsigned companion SR 76 in Dover. It travels north, and after , it enters the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area (LBL) and meets its northern terminus just inside the park boundary. The road continues as The Trace. The highway is part of the National Scenic Byway system. History Until the 2000s, SR 461 was signed as SR 49. Although the road south of the LBL boundary became designated as SR 461 after the USDA Forest Service took over ownership of LBL, some road maps still identify the entire Tennessee section of the trace as SR 49. Dover is a city in and the county seat of Stewart County, Tennessee, west-northwest of Nashville on the Cumberland River. Fort Donelson National Cemetery is in Dover. The Trace (Land Between The Lakes)
The Woodlands Trace National Scenic Byway, also known as "The Trace," is the major north–south roadway that traverses the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in two counties in western Kentucky and northwestern Stewart County, Tennessee, Stewart County in northwest Middle Tennessee. It is estimated to be in length. The road is part of the National Scenic Byway system. Although it is not signed, it is listed on LBL's road logs as FD-100. Description The road is called "The Trace", which is what many roads and paths were called in pioneer times. Stewart County, Tennessee
Stewart County is a county located on the northwestern corner of Middle Tennessee, in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2010 census, the population was 13,324. Its county seat is Dover. Stewart County is part of the Clarksville Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Stewart County was created by European Americans in 1803 from a portion of Montgomery County, and was named for Duncan Stewart, an early settler and state legislator. The first County Court met in March 1804. According to Goodspeed's history of Stewart County, "Stewart County was settled principally by North Carolinians, the first of whom came some time about 1795, that State having issued military grants to survivors of the Continental war, which called for large tracts of land lying in this county". State Route 76 (SR 76) is a state highway in Tennessee, traversing the state in a northeast-southwest axis from east of Memphis to north of Nashville. SR 76 is unique in that it actually changes its cardinal directions (from North-South to East-West) in Clarksville at the junction with US 41A and US 41A Bypass. Route description Fayette County SR 76 begins as a primary highway in Fayette County in Moscow at a junction with SR 57, its southern terminus. The highway goes north as a 2-lane highway through countryside and wooded areas to the community of Williston and has a junction with SR 193. A National Scenic Byway is a road recognized by the United States Department of Transportation for one or more of six "intrinsic qualities": archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational, and scenic. The program was established by Congress in 1991 to preserve and protect the nation's scenic but often less-traveled roads and promote tourism and economic development. The National Scenic Byways Program (NSBP) is administered by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The most scenic byways are designated All-American Roads, which must meet two out of the six intrinsic qualities. The designation means they have features that do not exist elsewhere in the United States and are unique and important enough to be tourist destinations unto themselves. State Route 49 (SR 49) is a state highway in Tennessee. The route forms a broad southern arc that passes through the rural Middle Tennessee towns of Dover, Erin, Charlotte, Ashland City, Pleasant View, and Springfield. Route description SR 49 begins in Stewart County in downtown Dover at a junction with US 79/ SR 76 as a primary highway. It goes east, paralleling the Cumberland River before turning south and having an intersection with SR 233. It then goes through some farmland and hills before crossing into Houston County. SR 49 then immediately enters Tennessee Ridge and comes to an intersection with SR 147, where SR 49 turns east again towards Erin. Fort Donelson National Battlefield
Fort Donelson National Battlefield preserves Fort Donelson and Fort Heiman, two sites of the American Civil War Forts Henry and Donelson Campaign, in which Union Army Brigadier General Ulysses S. Grant and Flag Officer Andrew Hull Foote captured three Confederate forts and opened two rivers, the Tennessee River and the Cumberland River, to control by the Union Navy. The commanders received national recognition for their victories in February 1862, as they were the first major Union successes of the war. The capture of Fort Donelson and its garrison by the Union led to the capture of Tennessee's capital and industrial center, Nashville, which remained in Union hands from February 25, 1862 until the end of the war, and gave the Union effective control over much of Tennessee. Paris Landing State Park
Paris Landing State Park is an 841-acre (3.4 km²) state park located on the western bank of Kentucky Lake in Buchanan, Henry County, Tennessee. The park is located inland from the original site of Paris Landing which served steamboat traffic on the Tennessee River. The site is now under the waters of Kentucky Lake, which was created by TVA when the Tennessee River was dammed in 1944. Amenities Lodging is available at the 130-room Inn, in 10 3-bedroom cabins, 45 campsites with water and electricity and 18 primitive campsites. The Inn contains a restaurant and a conference center and a full-service marina features boat slips, gas and a bait shop.
