Tennessee State Route 395
State Route 395 (SR 395), also known as Rock Creek Road, is a long east-west state highway in Unicoi County, Tennessee. It connects the town of Erwin with the Rock Creek Recreation Area of the Cherokee National Forest and North Carolina Highway 197 (NC 197) at the state line. Route description SR 395 begins in Erwin at an intersection with SR 107 north of downtown. It heads east through neighborhoods before entering the mountains, and the Cherokee National Forest, to pass by the Rock Creek Recreation Area. SR 395 then turns south and winds its way up as it ascends the mountains to Indian Grave Gap and the North Carolina state line, where it continues south as NC 197. The entire route of SR 395 is a two-lane highway. Erwin, Tennessee
Erwin is a town in and the county seat of Unicoi County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 6,097 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnson City Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City– Kingsport–Bristol, TN- VA Flag Pond, Tennessee, Unicoi, Tennessee Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the " Tri-Cities" region. History The town of Erwin received its name by a mail mishap. On December 5, 1879, the name of the town was Ervin, in honor of D.J.N. Ervin, who had donated of land for the county seat. A typo made by post office officials caused the name to be recorded as Erwin. The mistake was never corrected. Erwin earned some notoriety in 1916 when the only known public execution of an elephant in Tennessee occurred in the community. Unicoi County () is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2010 census, the population was 18,313. Its county seat is Erwin. North Carolina Highway 197 (NC 197) is a South-to-North state highway in Western North Carolina. The route is approximately in length and with its continuation into Tennessee as SR 395 connects Erwin, Tennessee to Flat Creek, North Carolina. State Route 107 (SR 107) is a state highway in eastern Tennessee, United States. It begins at an intersection with Round Mountain Road south of Del Rio and ends at the North Carolina state line east of Unicoi, where it becomes NC 226. It travels through the incorporated municipalities of Greeneville, Tusculum, Erwin and Unicoi, and the communities of Del Rio, South Greene, Horse Creek, South Central, Lamar, Embreeville and Limestone Cove.
