State Route 360 (SR 360) is a north-south state highway in Monroe County, Tennessee. It serves to connect Vonore with Fort Loudoun State Park, Cherohala Skyway, and Tellico Plains. Between Tellico Plains and Ballplay, SR 360 is known as Ballplay Road, and between Ballplay and Vonore, it is known as Unicoi Turnpike. Route description SR 360 begins in Tellico Plains at an intersection with SR 165 (Cherohala Skyway) just east of downtown. It immediately crosses a bridge over the Tellico River to leave Tellico Plains and wind its through mix of farmland and wooded areas as Ballplay Road. The highway then passes through a section of the Unicoi Mountains before passing through the community of Ballplay, where it makes a sharp right turn onto the Unicoi Turnpike. Tellico Plains, Tennessee
Tellico Plains is a town in Monroe County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 859 at the 2000 census and 880 at the 2010 census. History The area along the Tellico River was inhabited for thousands of years by indigenous peoples. The historic Muscogee settled here, before moving further south. In the late 18th century, the Cherokee settled in this area, displaced from the east and north by European colonial encroachment. A United States fur trade factory was situated here between 1795 and 1807. Tellico Plains occupies the former site of the Cherokee town of Great Tellico, which was one of the more important towns of the Overhill Cherokee during the late 18th century and before Indian Removal of the 1830s. Tellico Lake
Tellico Dam is a dam built by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Loudon County, Tennessee, on the Little Tennessee River as part of the Tellico Project. Planning for a dam structure on the Little Tennessee was reported as early as 1936 but was dismissed until 1942 for official development. Unlike the agency's previous dams built for hydroelectric power and flood control, Tellico Dam would be constructed to support tourism and economic development through the planned city concept of Timberlake, which aimed to support a population of 42,000 in a rural region that was documented being in poor economic conditions. Completed in 1979, it created the Tellico Reservoir and is the last dam to be built by the Tennessee Valley Authority. Tennessee State Route 33
State Route 33 (SR 33) is a primary and secondary route in East Tennessee. It runs 176 miles, from the Georgia state line in Polk County, northeast to the Virginia state line north of Kyles Ford in Hancock County. South of Maryville, SR 33 is a "hidden" route which shares a concurrency with US 411. The section of SR 33 between Knoxville and Tazewell, along with US 25E between Tazewell and Middlesboro, Kentucky, was an inspiration for the song The Ballad of Thunder Road. State Route 72 (SR 72) is a state highway in the eastern portion of U.S. state of Tennessee. It travels through the towns of Vonore and Loudon. Route description Roane County SR 72 begins in Roane County at an intersection with SR 58 just east of Midway. It then goes east as a narrow, curvy, 2-lane highway as it goes through Midway and then some mountains before entering Paint Rock and having a junction with SR 322, a loop route through Sweetwater. It stays curvy as it crosses more mountains and enters Loudon County. Unicoi Mountains
The Unicoi Mountains are a mountain range rising along the border between Tennessee and North Carolina in the southeastern United States. They are part of the Blue Ridge Mountain Province of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. The Unicois are located immediately south of the Great Smoky Mountains and immediately west of the Cheoah Mountains. Most of the range is protected as a national forest, namely the Cherokee National Forest on the Tennessee side and the Nantahala National Forest on the North Carolina side— although some parts have been designated as wilderness areas and are thus more strictly regulated. The Tellico River is a river in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. It is the Tennessee portion of the Cherohala Skyway which runs through Cherokee National Forest and connects Tellico Plains with Robbinsville, North Carolina.
