Tennessee State Route 231
State Route 231 (SR 231) is a north-south state highway in the hills of western Middle Tennessee. It serves to connect the towns of McEwen and Erin. Route description SR 231 begins in Humphreys County in downtown McEwen at an intersection with US 70/ SR 1. It heads north as Main Street to pass through neighborhoods before leaving McEwen and passing northwest through farmland for several miles as Erin Road. The highway then crosses over a wooded ridge just before crossing over White Oak Creek and entering Houston County. SR 231 then winds its way northwest as McEwen Road to cross another ridge before traveling up a narrow valley, where comes to an end at an intersection with SR 13 just south of Erin Erin is a Hiberno-English word for Ireland originating from the Irish word ''"Éirinn"''. Humphreys County, Tennessee
Humphreys County is a county located in the western part of Middle Tennessee, in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,990. Its county seat is Waverly. History Humphreys County was established in 1809 from parts of Stewart County, and named for Parry Wayne Humphreys, a young Justice of the State Supreme Court, who was later elected as US Congressman from this area. The county seat was initially located at Reynoldsburg, near the mouth of Dry Creek. When the western half of the county was taken to form Benton County to the west in 1835, the seat of Humphreys was newly designated as Waverly, a town that was more centrally located in the redefined jurisdiction. During the Civil War, the Battle of Johnsonville was fought for two days in the western half of the county in November 1864. State Route 1 (SR 1), known as the Memphis to Bristol Highway, is a mostly-Unsigned highway, unsigned State highway (US), state highway in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Highland Rim
The Highland Rim is a geographic term for the area in Tennessee surrounding the Central Basin. Nashville is largely surrounded by higher terrain in all directions. Geologically, the Central Basin is a dome. The Highland Rim is a cuesta surrounding the basin, and the border where the difference in elevation is sharply pronounced is an escarpment. Nashville is located in the northwestern corner of the basin. Geology and Physiography The Highland Rim is a physiographic section of the larger Interior Low Plateaus province, which in turn is part of the larger Interior Plains physiographic division.
