State Route 23 (abbreviated SR 23) is an east–west major arterial urban highway running from Bellevue Boulevard (U.S. Route 51) near downtown Memphis to Interstate 240 near Shelby Farms in Shelby County, Tennessee. Route description SR 23 is a mix between a four-lane divided highway and a seven-lane urban highway (with center turn lane). This highway is designated on maps as being a secondary state route from its eastern terminus to its junction with SR 277 (East Parkway). At this junction, SR 23 becomes a primary state route all the way to its western terminus at US 51. SR 23 is better known as Union Avenue from its junction with SR 57 (Poplar Avenue) to its western terminus with US 51. Shelby Farms is a public park located in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, just east of the city of Memphis. It is one of the largest urban parks in the US and the world, at a size of and covers more than five times the area of Central Park in New York City with . State Route 277 (SR 277), also known as Airways Boulevard and East Parkway, is a major north-south urban state highway in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. Route description SR 277 begins as a signed secondary highway at an intersection with Lamar Avenue (US 78/ SR 4) and Airways Boulevard in the Orange Mound community and continues north as Airways. It intersects the Memphis Parkway System and turns into East Parkway. Continuing north it crosses under Union Avenue (US 70/ 79/ 64/ SR 23) and picks up the former three routes, where it becomes an unsigned primary highway. State Route 57 (SR 57) is an east–west highway that runs from Memphis to the Mississippi state line near Pickwick Dam and Pickwick Landing State Park. Except for in Shelby County and western Fayette County, SR 57 is a two lane road generally with a speed limit. The majority of the road follows the path of the Memphis and Charleston Railroad (now part of the Norfolk Southern Railway). SR 57 is signed as a primary highway for most of its length, excluding the section between its western terminus and the split with US 72 in Collierville, which is secondary.
