Tennessee State Route 221
State Route 221 (SR 221) is a east-west state highway in Crockett County, Tennessee, connecting the towns of Alamo and Gadsden. For the majority of its length, SR 221 is known as Alamo Gadsden Road. Route description SR 221 begins in downtown Alamo at an intersection with SR 54 and SR 88. It goes east through neighborhoods as E Church Street before leaving Alamo and passing through farmland and rural areas as Alamo Gadsden Road. It goes due east for several miles, where it crosses over a large creek, before turning southeast at a Y-Intersection with Emerson Road to enter Gadsden. The highway enters town along Quincy Street and passes by some homes before coming to an end at an intersection with US 70A/US 79/ SR 76. Alamo, Tennessee
Alamo is a town in Crockett County, Tennessee. Its population was 2,461 at the time of the 2010 U.S. Census. Alamo, located in the central part of West Tennessee, is the county seat of Crockett County. History Alamo was first founded as a trading post called Cageville by mercantile partners Isaac M. Johnson and Lycurgus Cage in 1846. The two were the first to do business in the town, engaging in general merchandising in 1847. Johnson became the town's first postmaster in 1848, and the town's first church, built by Methodists, was erected the following year. The name was changed to Alamo after the town became the county seat with the organization of Crockett County in late 1871—the act that formed Crockett County specified that its seat should bear that name, as the county had been formed to commemorate Davy Crockett's stand at the Alamo. Gadsden, Tennessee
Gadsden is a town in Crockett County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 470 at the 2010 census. It is the birthplace of Hall of Fame rock guitarist Scotty Moore, who played with Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson. History Gadsden was established in the mid-19th century as a stop along the Memphis, Clarksville and Louisville Railroad. Crockett County, Tennessee
Crockett County is located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 13,911. Its county seat is Alamo. Crockett County is included in the Jackson, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Crockett County was formed in 1871 from portions of Haywood, Madison, Dyer and Gibson counties. It is named in honor of David Crockett (1786–1836), frontier humorist, soldier, Tennessee state legislator and U.S. congressman, and defender of the Alamo. In 1876, in what apparently was a political rivalry gone bad, Crockett County Sheriff R. G. Harris and 19 other unidentified men removed four black men from the county jail and beat them, killing one of them. The sheriff was arrested. In ''United States v. State Route 54 (SR 54) is a west–east rural highway in West Tennessee, which runs from Covington to just north of Paris. Route description Covington to Alamo SR 54 begins in downtown Covington in Tipton County at an intersection with US 51/ SR 3. It then goes to a junction with SR 384. Shortly afterwards, it has a junction with SR 179. SR 54 then exits Covington and continues to the east, passing through Glenn and having an intersection with SR 14, which is its northern terminus. SR 54 then continues east and crosses into Haywood County. It then enters Brownsville and intersects SR 19, just a short distance away from its junction with US 70. It continues into town and has a junction with SR 1 (Old US 70) and begins a short concurrency together, and comes to a junction in the center of town with SR 76 and SR 369 and turns north to become concurrent with them, separating from SR 1. State Route 88 (SR 88) is a west-east state highway in West Tennessee. The route traverses Lauderdale County, Tennessee, Lauderdale and Crockett County, Tennessee, Crockett Counties. Tennessee State Route 76
State Route 76 (SR 76) is a state highway in Tennessee, traversing the state in a northeast-southwest axis from east of Memphis to north of Nashville. SR 76 is unique in that it actually changes its cardinal directions (from North-South to East-West) in Clarksville at the junction with US 41A and US 41A Bypass. Route description Fayette County SR 76 begins as a primary highway in Fayette County in Moscow at a junction with SR 57, its southern terminus. The highway goes north as a 2-lane highway through countryside and wooded areas to the community of Williston and has a junction with SR 193. It then turns slight northeast before turning north again at the junction with SR 195 just south of Somerville.
