Tennessee State Route 218
State Route 218 (SR 218) is a state highway and bypass around the city of Paris, in the western portion of the U.S. state of Tennessee. The northern section from SR 69 to US 79 is unfinished and under construction. When finished, the route will make a complete bypass around Paris. It is signed in a rather odd way, from US 641 to its first junction with US 79 the southbound lane is signed as it is going north and the northbound lane is signed as it is going south on the west side of Paris. Route description It currently begins at an intersection with US 641 north of Paris. The route then travels west to an intersection with SR 69 northwest of Paris. The route travels to the south to intersect SR 54 on the west side of Paris. Just past this intersection, the highway turns to the southeast, and then intersects US 79 and turns east and travels just south of Paris city limits. Paris, Tennessee
Paris is a city in and the county seat of Henry County, Tennessee, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 10,316. A replica of the Eiffel Tower stands in the southern part of Paris. History The present site of Paris was selected by five commissioners appointed to the task of choosing a county seat at the December 1822 session of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of Henry County. Their choice was a site, of which were owned by Joseph Blythe and owned by Peter Ruff; both men donated the land to the county to have the seat there. A public square, streets, alleys, and 104 lots were laid off, and the lots were sold at auction over a two-day period in either March or April 1823. Paris was incorporated on September 30, 1823. It was the first town incorporated in West Tennessee, followed by Lexington on October 9, 1824, and Memphis on December 19, 1826. List Of State Routes In Tennessee
The Tennessee state routes do not follow a systematic numbering system unlike the U.S. Highway System and some other states' highway systems. The routes are separated into primary and secondary routes though. Many of the routes are hidden in that they are overlaid on U.S. Routes and not signed. The mile markers throughout Tennessee, however, show the state route number for these hidden routes. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) maintains these routes under the "State Highways" title of state law, but designates them as "state routes". Paris Landing State Park
Paris Landing State Park is an 841-acre (3.4 km²) state park located on the western bank of Kentucky Lake in Buchanan, Henry County, Tennessee. The park is located inland from the original site of Paris Landing which served steamboat traffic on the Tennessee River. The site is now under the waters of Kentucky Lake, which was created by TVA when the Tennessee River was dammed in 1944. Amenities Lodging is available at the 130-room Inn, in 10 3-bedroom cabins, 45 campsites with water and electricity and 18 primitive campsites. The Inn contains a restaurant and a conference center and a full-service marina features boat slips, gas and a bait shop. The marina, along with the spacious Inn and conference center, have played host to dozens of professional crappie and bass tournaments. State Route 76 (SR 76) is a state highway in Tennessee, traversing the state in a northeast-southwest axis from east of Memphis to north of Nashville. SR 76 is unique in that it actually changes its cardinal directions (from North-South to East-West) in Clarksville at the junction with US 41A and US 41A Bypass. Route description Fayette County SR 76 begins as a primary highway in Fayette County in Moscow at a junction with SR 57, its southern terminus. The highway goes north as a 2-lane highway through countryside and wooded areas to the community of Williston and has a junction with SR 193. Mayfield, Kentucky
Mayfield is a home rule–class city and the county seat of Graves County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 10,017 as of the 2020 United States Census. History 19th century Mayfield is in the center of the Jackson Purchase, an eight-county region purchased by Isaac Shelby and Andrew Jackson from the Chickasaw people in 1818. Mayfield was established as the county seat of Graves County in 1821, and the county was formally organized in 1823. State Route 54 (SR 54) is a west–east rural highway in West Tennessee, which runs from Covington to just north of Paris. Route description Covington to Alamo SR 54 begins in downtown Covington in Tipton County at an intersection with US 51/ SR 3. It then goes to a junction with SR 384.
