Tennessee's 30th Senate district is one of 33 districts in the Tennessee Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Sara Kyle since 2015, succeeding her husband, fellow Democrat Jim Kyle. Geography District 30 is based in Memphis, covering much of the city's Downtown, North, and East neighborhoods. The district is located almost entirely within Tennessee's 9th congressional district, with a small section extending into the 8th district. The 2012 United States Senate election in Tennessee took place on November 6, 2012, as part of the general election including the 2012 U.S. presidential election, elections to the House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Bob Corker won a second term in a landslide, carrying all but two counties in the state. Corker narrowly flipped reliably Democratic Davidson County, home to Nashville, which had not voted Republican on the presidential level since 1988. He faced Democratic nominee Mark E. Clayton as well as several third-party candidates and several independents in this election. Beverly Robison Marrero (born January 23, 1939) is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Tennessee Senate District 30, which is a part of Shelby County. She was first elected to the 103rd General Assembly in the House by-electioafter Rep. Carol Chumney resigned to become a member of the Memphis City Council. In the House, she was Secretary of the Children and Family Affairs Committee, and a member of the Government Operations Committee.
