Tenisha Yancey
Tenisha Renee Yancey (born August 29, 1976) formerly served as a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, where she represented the 1st House District. The 1st House District previously comprised the cities of Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse Pointe Shores and a portion of Detroit. Yancey was elected in the 2017 Special Election called to fill a vacancy created when former Representative Brian Banks resigned from the seat after being charged with fraud for using false payroll records to obtain a loan from a credit union. Personal life Yancey is the niece of former United Auto Workers Vice President, Jimmy Settles. Yancey worked for the Wayne County Executive's office and the Wayne County Land Bank prior to receiving her Juris Doctor degree in 2012. Mike Duggan
Michael Edward Duggan (born July 15, 1958) is an American lawyer, businessman, and politician serving as the 75th mayor of Detroit, Michigan since 2014. A member of the Democratic Party, Duggan previously served as the Wayne County Prosecutor from 2001 to 2004, and as the deputy county executive of Wayne County from 1987 to 2001. Duggan received national attention following his election in 2013, in part for being the first White mayor of the majority-Black city since Roman Gribbs in the early 1970s, when Detroit's population still had a White majority. Duggan was reelected mayor in 2017 and 2021. He has received an approval rating of over 68%, the highest rating of any mayor of Detroit. Michigan Democratic Party
The Michigan Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the state of Michigan. It is based in Lansing. Lavora Barnes is the party's current chair. She was previously the party's Chief Operating Officer. The party currently controls half of Michigan's U.S. House seats, both U.S. Senate seats, and all statewide offices, holding the offices of governor, secretary of state, and attorney general.
