Tempest (musician)
TEMP3ST is an American indie electronic rock band, consisting of award-winning songwriter and producer, Gabrielle Wortman, Christopher Roberts and George Madrid. The band formed in May 2012 after a three-year collaboration between Christopher Roberts and Gabrielle Wortman’s during her solo career. Gabrielle Wortman was named 2012 Sundance Film Festival's "Next Big Thing" on Park City TV, a title previously held by The Civil Wars among others. TEMP3ST independently released their debut EP, ''i am tempest.'', under the TEMP3ST band name on June 10, 2012. History Gabrielle Wortman moved to Los Angeles, California in 2007 to attend the University of California, Los Angeles for a degree in Music Media and Management where she was an honors student. UCLA Spring Sing
Spring Sing is an annual music competition held in May at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion. Touted as "UCLA's oldest and greatest musical tradition," the competition brings together UCLA students to perform as solo artists, duets, bands, and a cappella groups in front of an audience of over 8,000 UCLA students, alumni, faculty, staff and celebrity judges. History The competition began with only 11 groups and was performed on campus at UCLA's Royce Hall. In the beginning years, the competition was composed mainly of sorority singing groups, serenading their fraternity counterparts. The first of these groups to win the competition was a barbershop trio from the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. During the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, the competition grew quickly and outgrew Royce Hall. Cults is an American indie pop band formed in New York City in 2010. The band first came to prominence when they posted a three-song EP, ''Cults 7"'', on their Bandcamp page. They are signed to Sony and In the Name Of, a record label that was set up by British singer Lily Allen. History Cults formed in 2010 while guitarist Brian Oblivion and singer Madeline Follin, both from San Diego, were students in New York City. Oblivion went to NYU to study documentary cinema, Follin went to The New School. Madeline had previously recorded with punk band Youth Gone Mad on the album, '' Touching Cloth''. Cults released an EP on Forrest Family Records, ''Cults 7"'', with the track "Go Outside" recorded by Paul Kostabi at Thunderdome Studios, named "Best New Music" by Pitchfork Media. Grouplove (often typeset as GROUPLOVE) is an American alternative rock band that was formed in 2009 by Hannah Hooper (lead vocals, keyboards), Christian Zucconi (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Sean Gadd (bass), Andrew Wessen (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Ryan Rabin (drums). Rabin produced their debut EP, ''Grouplove'', which was originally released independently, and was later re-released by Canvasback/Atlantic with a bonus track and their hit song, "Colours". The Civil Wars were an American musical duo composed of Joy Williams (singer), Joy Williams and John Paul White. Formed in 2008, The Civil Wars won four Grammy Awards prior to their 2014 breakup.
