Tempe Bus Depot
Tempe Bus Depot (formerly Tempe Tram Depot) is a bus depot in the Sydney suburb of Tempe, New South Wales, Tempe. It is currently operated by Transit Systems Sydney, Transit Systems. The depot survived the closure of Trams in Sydney, Sydney's former tram network and provided storage for the buses that replaced the trams. History Tempe Tram Depot opened on 15 September 1912 as an eighteen road depot on the corner of the Princes Highway and Gannon Street, Tempe, New South Wales, Tempe. It served the Trams in Sydney#Cooks River Line, Cooks River, Trams in Sydney#Cooks River-Dulwich Hill Line, Marrickville and Trams in Sydney#Dulwich Hill Line, Dulwich Hill lines. It closed on 20 November 1954 to become a bus depot, that in turn closed in January 1992. Princes Highway
Princes Highway is a major road in Australia, extending from Sydney via Melbourne to Adelaide through the states of New South Wales, Victoria (Australia), Victoria and South Australia. It has a length of (along Highway 1) or via the former alignments of the highway, although these routes are slower and connections to the bypassed sections of the original route are poor in many cases. Tempe, New South Wales
Tempe is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Tempe is located 9 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Inner West Council. Tempe sits on the northern bank of the Cooks River and is separated from Sydney Airport by the Alexandra Canal, also known as Sheas Creek. The Wolli Creek waterway also empties into the Cooks River. History Tempe was named after the mansion on the southern banks of the Cooks River in the area that is now known as Wolli Creek. Transit Systems NSW, previously known as Transit Systems Sydney, is a bus operator in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is a subsidiary of Transit Systems. History In November 2012, Transit Systems was awarded a contract by Transport for NSW to operate region 3 bus services in Western Sydney, taking over services operated by Busabout, Hopkinsons, Metro-link and Westbus. The Sydney tramway network served the inner suburbs of Sydney, Australia from 1879 until 1961. Sydney Bus Museum
Sydney Bus Museum (formerly the Sydney Bus and Truck Museum) is a not-for-profit transportation museum and education centre for public benefit located in the suburb of Leichhardt, in Sydney, Australia. The museum is open to the public on the first and third Sunday of each month. The museum restores, maintains, displays and operates over 70 buses from the 1920s to 2000's. This mainly includes both single-decker and double-decker buses from NSW government operations, but also includes Double-Decker buses from Hong Kong and London as well as single decker buses from NSW private operators. State Transit Authority
The State Transit Authority of New South Wales, also referred to as State Transit, was an agency of the Government of New South Wales operating bus services in Sydney. Superseding the Urban Transit Authority in 1989, it was also responsible for the provision of ferry services in Sydney until 2004 and bus and ferry services in Newcastle until 2017. Leichhardt Bus Depot
Leichhardt Bus Depot is a bus depot in the Sydney suburb of Leichhardt operated by Transit Systems. History Leichhardt Tram Depot was built as a twelve road depot on the corner of William Street and Derbyshire Road, Leichhardt, being available for use on 22 June 1915. It was never used as an operational tram depot, instead being used to store trams. It was converted to a bus depot in 1937. It was also the central maintenance facility until the Chullora Bus Workshops opened in 1958. The old tramshed is used as part of the new expanded Leichhardt Bus Depot while the Sydney Bus Museum occupies the northern bays after its relocation from Tempe Bus Depot. Metrobus (Sydney)
Metrobus (stylised as metrobus) is a high frequency, high capacity bus network in Sydney, Australia. Metrobus services run every 10 minutes during peak periods, 15 minutes during off-peak weekday periods, and 20 minutes on weekends, linking key commercial suburbs and centres throughout the city, with the intention of making timetables obsolete. The Sydney Metropolitan Bus Service Contracts are contracts issued by the Government of New South Wales to metropolitan bus operators in Sydney, Australia. Since 2005, the government has moved from individual contracts with operators to larger contract regions, leading to the consolidation of bus operators.
