Tembagapura
Tembagapura is a district in Mimika Regency, part of the Indonesian province of Central Papua, centered on an urban village built to support the Grasberg Mine. The district covers 2,586.86 km2, and it had a population of 16,917 at the 2010 Census and 23,022 at the 2020 Census. The central town was established as a company town by Freeport-McMoran in the late 1960s. Etymology ''Tembaga'' in Indonesian means "copper", while ''pura'' in Sanskrit is equivalent to "temple" or "town", meaning "Copper Town". Geography and climate It is situated on a rocky plain at the base of Mount Zaagkam , southeast of the mine. The town is in the Sudirman Range, not far from Mount Carstensz, the highest peak in Oceania. The area gets about of rainfall each year. Mimika Regency
Mimika Regency is one of the regencies (''kabupaten'') in the Indonesian province of Central Papua. It covers an area of 21,693.51 km2, and had a population of 182,001 at the 2010 Census, but grew to 311,969 at the 2020 Census. The official estimate as at mid 2021 was 316,295. The administrative centre is the town of Timika, which lies within Mimika Baru District, which had 144,893 inhabitants in mid 2021. Telephone numbers in Indonesia have different systems for land lines and mobile phones: land lines use area codes, while mobile phones do not. For land line area codes, the digit "0" is added in front when dialing domestic long distance from within Indonesia, but is always omitted when calling from abroad. Grasberg Mine
The Grasberg mine has one of the largest reserves of gold and copper in the world. It is located in Mimika Regency, Central Papua, Indonesia near Puncak Jaya. It is operated by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI, ''see below''), a joint venture between the government of Indonesia, government of Papua, and American company Freeport-McMoRan (FCX). FCX operates under a Contract of Work (CoW) agreement with the government of Indonesia, which allows Freeport to conduct exploration, mining and production activities in a area (Block A). Kuala Kencana
Kuala Kencana (literally "golden estuary") is a district in Mimika Regency, Central Papua, Indonesia. It is the purpose-built company town, managed by Indonesian mineral extraction company PT Freeport Indonesia. The new town was inaugurated by Indonesian President Suharto in 1995.
