Tellurian Inc. is a natural gas company headquartered in Houston, Texas. It was founded in 2016 by Charif Souki and Martin Houston and is led by President and CEO Octávio Simões. History After Charif Souki, the former founder and CEO of large natural gas company Cheniere Energy, was fired from the company after a takeover by billionaire investor Carl Icahn, he founded Tellurian in 2016 with Martin Houston, the former COO of BG Group. The board of Cheniere had expelled Souki over, in part, his plans to more ambitiously expand the company, plans that he brought to Tellurian, telling the ''Financial Times'' upon launch that he aimed to undercut its rivals, including Cheniere, by 15 to 20 percent. Charif Souki (born 1953) is an American businessman. He is the co-founder and former CEO of Cheniere Energy, an oil and gas company which specialized in liquefied natural gas. He was the highest-paid chief executive officer in the United States in 2013. Early life Charif Souki was born in 1953 in Cairo, Egypt. His father, Samyr Souki, was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Souki moved to Beirut, Lebanon in 1957. Career Souki worked as a banker on Wall Street. He also worked as a restaurateur. Cheniere Energy, Inc. is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) company headquartered in Houston, Texas. In February 2016 it became the first US company to export liquefied natural gas. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas (predominantly methane, CH4, with some mixture of ethane, C2H6) that has been cooled down to liquid form for ease and safety of non-pressurized storage or transport. It takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state (at standard conditions for temperature and pressure). LNG is odorless, colorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive.
