''Telepoll'' was a Canadian talk show television series which aired on CTV between 1961 and 1965. It was hosted by Royce Frith. Premise Each week, a guest panel was invited to discuss a current event. Pre-selected viewers were also polled and their responses were tabulated and presented on the next show. Each episode cost an estimated $3500 (), among the most expensive domestic CTV productions. CNCP Telecommunications was ''Telepolls sponsor. Peter Jennings, then based at CTV's Ottawa affiliate CJOH-TV, was a correspondent for the program. Notable episodes Glen Haw, a lawyer for the Jehovah's Witnesses sect appeared on 14 January 1961 to discuss their doctrine against blood transfusions. Haw stormed off the set following a statement by Kildare Dobbs, another panelist on that episode. The newspaper industry was the subject of a 3 January 1965 episode. CTV Television Network
The CTV Television Network, commonly known as CTV, is a Canadian English-language terrestrial television network. Launched in 1961 and acquired by BCE Inc. in 2000, CTV is Canada's largest privately owned television network and is now a division of the Bell Media subsidiary of BCE. It is Canada's largest privately or commercially owned network consisting of 22 owned-and-operated stations nationwide and two privately owned affiliates, and has consistently been placed as Canada's top- rated network in total viewers and in key demographics since 2002, after several years trailing the rival Global Television Network in key markets. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the Bible prohibits Christians from accepting blood transfusions. Their literature states that, "'abstaining from ... blood' means not accepting blood transfusions and not donating or storing their own blood for transfusion." The belief is based on an interpretation of scripture that differs from other Christian denominations. It is one of the doctrines for which Jehovah's Witnesses are best known. Jehovah's Witnesses' literature teaches that their refusal of transfusions of whole blood or its four primary components—red cells, white cells, platelets and plasma—is a non-negotiable religious stand and that those who respect life as a gift from God do not try to sustain life by taking in blood, even in an emergency. Kildare Dobbs
Kildare Robert Eric Dobbs (10 October 1923 – 1 April 2013) was a Canadian short story and travel writer. Born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India, he was educated in Ireland and later spent 5 years in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. After the war he worked in the British Colonial Service in Tanganyika. Dobbs came to Canada in 1952 and became a teacher, editor for Macmillan of Canada, managing editor of '' Saturday Night'', and book editor of ''The Toronto Star Weekly''. In 2000, he was awarded the Order of Ontario. Dobbs lived in Toronto with his wife, Linda Kooluris Dobbs, a noted portrait artist, painter and photographer. Royce Frith
Royce Herbert Frith, (November 12, 1923 – March 17, 2005) was a Canadian diplomat, public servant and politician. He received a BA from the University of Toronto, an LL.B from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Dipl. d’études supérieures (droit) from the University of Ottawa. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1949. An amateur actor and performer, Frith found time to act in plays, perform on the radio, and sing and play several instruments. Frith first came to prominence as a member of the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism in the 1960s. He served as a legal advisor to the Commissioner of Official Languages from 1971 until 1977 when he was appointed to the Senate of Canada by Pierre Trudeau.
