''Tele-Variety'' was a four-part Australian television variety series which aired fortnightly on Sydney station ABN-2 on Saturdays from 7 December 1957 to 18 January 1958. It alternated in the time-slot with ''Look Who's Dropped In''. The producer was Harry Pringle. It is worth noting that ABC series of the period often had shorter seasons than those on commercial television. The episode broadcast 21 December 1957 was hosted by Johnny Craig, and featured the Gus Merzi Quintet, harmonica player Barry Sandford, dance team The Tyroliers, balancing act The Warrens and Jandy the Musical Clown. Harry Pringle (producer)
Harry Noel Pringle (25 December 190330 March 1985) was an Australian radio and television producer who worked on light entertainment programmes in England and Australia. Biography Harry Pringle was the son of Edith Ogilvie Benzley, and Harry Lempriere Pringle (1869, Hobart, Tasmania1914, London, England). His father was an operatic bass who sang at Covent Garden, London and the Metropolitan Opera, New York. Pringle worked in music hall, until in 1937 he became one of the first producers on BBC Television. Between February 1937 and August 1939, he was credited 112 times as TV producer (nearly six programmes a month), three times as director, and once as editor; he was at the same time producing radio programmes. On 1 September 1939, BBC Television broadcasting was suspended because of the outbreak of World War II, and only resumed in June 1946. ''Look Who's Dropped In'' was a four-part Australian television variety series which aired on Sydney station ABN-2. Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical theatre, musical performances, sketch comedy, magic (illusion), magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. ABN (TV Station)
ABN is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's television station in Sydney. The station began broadcasting on 5 November 1956. Its original studios were located in Gore Hill and were in use up until March 2004, when they were co-located with ABC Radio, Radio Australia, ABC-TV Set Construction and ABC Australia at the Corporation's headquarters in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. Its main transmitter, however, remains at Gore Hill. The station can be received throughout the state through a number of relay transmitters, as well as satellite transmission on the Optus Aurora platform. ABV is the name of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's television station in Melbourne, Victoria. History The station began broadcasting on 19 November 1956 and is transmitted throughout the state via a network of relay transmitters. ABV was the second television station founded in Victoria after the first, HSV-7, which opened two weeks earlier on 4 November, as well as being the third television station to launch in Australia overall (the first being TCN-9). The studios are located in Southbank (although formerly in Elsternwick) with the transmitter at Mount Dandenong. Kinescope
Kinescope , shortened to kine , also known as telerecording in Britain, is a recording of a television program on motion picture film, directly through a lens focused on the screen of a video monitor. The process was pioneered during the 1940s for the preservation, re-broadcasting and sale of television programmes before the introduction of quadruplex videotape, which from 1956 eventually superseded the use of kinescopes for all of these purposes. Kinescopes were the only practical way to preserve live television broadcasts prior to videotape. Typically, the term Kinescope can refer to the process itself, the equipment used for the procedure (a movie camera mounted in front of a video monitor, and synchronized to the monitor's scanning rate), or a film made using the process.
