Tekeeua Tarati
Tekeeua Tarati (born 12 April 1971 in Tamana) is an I-Kiribati politician and entrepreneur, Minister for Information, Communications, Transport and Tourism development since July 2020. Managing Director of Triple Tee Enterprises (TTT), between 2006 and 2018 he served the Kiribati Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) as Secretary, Vice-President and President (2012-2016), for maximum terms. When Matiota Kairo, the MP of Tamana, resigned in November 2018 for medical reasons, Tarati run for by-election and was elected in March 2019 at the Maneaba ni Maungatabu. The House of Assembly (, ) is the Legislature of Kiribati. Since 2016, it has 45 members, 44 elected for a four-year term in 23 single-seat and multi-seat constituencies and 1 non-elected delegate from the Banaban community on Rabi Island in Fiji. Tamana, Kiribati
Tamana (also Rotcher Island) is the smallest island in the Gilbert Islands. It is accessible both by boat and by air with Air Kiribati and Coral Sun Airways (once a week; Tamana Airport code: TMN). 1,054 people live in Tamana (2020 census). Tamana is the second southernmost island in the Gilbert group and the smallest inhabited island in Kiribati. The island is approximately in length, at its widest point, and has a total land area of . Tamana is a reef island with no lagoon. The Island Council is located at Bakaakaa, the central village of the island and this is also where the rest of the Government facilities are located such as the CB radio for inter-island communication, the hardware store, and the fuel depot. 2020 Kiribati Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Kiribati in 2020 to elect members of the House of Assembly. The elections were originally planned on 7 April 2020, with a second round of voting to be held on 15 April 2020. However, in late March the Electoral Commission changed the voting date to 14 April 2020, with a second round on 21 April 2020. The elections resulted in President Taneti Maamau's pro-China Tobwaan Kiribati Party losing a majority in parliament to parties either supportive of Taiwan or critical of his handling of diplomatic recognition of China. However, on 22 May, during the first meeting of the new House, the 44 MPs were equally divided on two benches, with 22 supporting the new Boutokaan Kiribati Moa Party and 22 the Tobwaan Kiribati Party.
