Regen (river)
The Regen (; ) is a river in Bavaria, Germany, and a left tributary of the Danube, at Regensburg, Germany. The source of its main headstream, the Great Regen (''Großer Regen''), is in the Bohemian Forest on the territory of the Czech Republic, near Železná Ruda. The river crosses the border after a few kilometres, at Bayerisch Eisenstein. The name in German evolved from the name in Latin, but its meaning is unknown. The Romans called the river variously ''Regana'' (feminine gender), ''Reganus'' (masculine), and Reganum (neuter). At Zwiesel, the Great Regen is joined by the Little Regen (''Kleiner Regen'') to form the Black Regen (''Schwarzer Regen''). The Black Regen flows through Regen and Viechtach, and is joined by the White Regen (''Weißer Regen'') in Bad Kötzting. Beyond this confluence, the river is called Regen. The river's total length, including its headstreams, the Great Regen and Black Regen, is . The Little Regen crosses the Frauenau Reservoir. The Regen Valley fo ... Bavaria
Bavaria ( ; ), officially the Free State of Bavaria (german: Freistaat Bayern, link=no ), is a state in the south-east of Germany. With an area of , Bavaria is the largest German state by land area, comprising roughly a fifth of the total land area of Germany. With over 13 million inhabitants, it is second in population only to North Rhine-Westphalia, but due to its large size its population density is below the German average. Bavaria's main cities are Munich (its capital and largest city and also the third largest city in Germany), Nuremberg, and Augsburg. The history of Bavaria includes its earliest settlement by Iron Age Celtic tribes, followed by the conquests of the Roman Empire in the 1st century BC, when the territory was incorporated into the provinces of Raetia and Noricum. It became the Duchy of Bavaria (a stem duchy) in the 6th century AD following the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. It was later incorporated into the Holy Roman Empire, became an ind ... Teisnach
Teisnach (Northern Bavarian: ''Deisna'') is a larger municipality in the district of Regen in Bavaria in Germany. Geography Teisnach is situated in the Bavarian Forest region in Lower Bavaria. The municipality lies on the estuary of the river Teisnach into the Schwarzer Regen (river) about 25 kilometers north of Deggendorf and around 170 kilometers northeast of the Bavarian capital Munich. History The village of Teisnach was first mentioned in an official document in the year 1367 as a small fishing village. In 1818, today's municipality formed out of the merging with Teisnach and the nearby municipalities of Kaikenried and Sohl. By the late 19th century, the once small village developed into an industrial hub within the region when a paper factory was opened on the shore of the Schwarzer Regen. This led to a growth in population and the construction of the Teisnach church in 1900. In 1890, Teisnach was linked to the railway network with the opening of the Gotteszell-Blaibach ... Rivers Of Bavaria
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases, a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague. Rivers are part of the water cycle. Water generally collects in a river from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge, springs, ...
