Stumptown Comics Fest was a comic book convention, held annually in Portland, Oregon from 2004–2013. In the model of the Alternative Press Expo and the Small Press Expo, Stumptown was a forum for artists, writers and publishers of comic art in its various forms to expose the public to comics not typically accessible through normal commercial channels. Jesse Reklaw (born 1971) is an American cartoonist and painter, author of the syndicated dream-based comic strip '' Slow Wave''. Biography Reklaw was born in Berkeley, California and grew up in Sacramento, studied at UC Santa Cruz, and completed a master's degree in computer science at Yale University. In 1995, while pursuing a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence, he began self-publishing comics in his dream-themed series ''Concave Up''. At the same time, he developed the weekly strip ''Slow Wave''; when he began to have some success in syndicating it, he dropped out of Yale to work as a cartoonist. He lives in Portland, Oregon, with his cat, Littles, who appears in many of his strips and zines. ''Slow Wave'' '' Slow Wave'' is "a collective dream diary authored by people from around the world." Theo Ellsworth is a self-taught artist and comics creator best known for his graphic novels ''Capacity'' and ''Sleeper Car''. In 2010, he was a recipient of the Best Art Vinyl award for the Flying Lotus EP album Pattern + Grid World. He lives with his wife and son in Missoula, Montana. Biography Theo Ellsworth was born in Los Angeles, California where he lived until he was six when his family relocated to Missoula, Montana. Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is an annual promotional effort by the North American comic book industry to attract new readers to independent comic book stores. It usually takes place on the first Saturday of May and is often cross-promoted with the release of a superhero film. Over two thousand participating stores give away millions of comic books annually. The event was proposed by Joe Field in the August 2001 issue of '' Comics & Games Retailer'' magazine and Free Comic Book Day was launched in 2002, coordinated by the industry's single large distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors. Julia Gfrörer
Julia Gfrörer (born September 12, 1982) is an American cartoonist, graphic novelist, illustrator, and author. Her work is often transgressive, invoking occult themes within an ambience of subtly observed historicist concerns, in narratives generally characterized by "mumblecore dialogue, persistent overtones of horror and suffering, and unapologetic sexuality." She's been hailed as "one of the most promising artists of her generation" by Phoebe Gloeckner. Background Gfrörer graduated from Cornish College with a BFA in printmaking.
